I am studying the wiring diagrams and had a couple of questions maybe you guys can help me with.

1. Do the numbers and letter associated with the different wires means anything? Maybe there is a legend that describes that letters of a certain kind do a certain thing?

2. Is there any document that shows the flow of electricity and the voltage/amps flowing through the different wires? I am probably over thinking the diagram to much but I would like to understand the wiring harness on my car to this level.

if you are using a factory repair manual and you see "M2-18P"

that number decodes as follows:

"M2" is the wire number, if you see "M2" again it is connected to the other "M2" in the harness some where

"18P" means that it is an 18 gauge wire that is pink in color, the color codes are on every page in the wiring diagrams

as far as telling the flow you can see by the diagrams what gets 12volts when a switch or other device is closed, you can also see the grounds, as far as the current there is no chart to say what device gets how much current ,but you can get an idea of how much power it carries by the gauge of the wire and what it is powering

clear as mud !

I bought one of these when I started working on ny challenger. beware they are not 100% accurate and double check everything against a factory diagram, but it helped me immensely in the learning process. Get a good soldering iron and practice on scrap wiring first. If you need help with connectors I can send you a link for a good supplier.

What year is the car you are working on? Some of the older (pre-1967) wiring diagrams are pretty crude and can be hard to follow. One of the things I do to help simplify things, especially when troubleshooting a particular circuit, is draw my own wiring harness of say the windshield wiper system. It can help you learn the general design of mopar systems of the era. Once you look at multiple cars you will realize that most of the cars from 66-76 used the same color coding for wires across the board (like the yellow ignition wire for example).

Also be aware that factory junctions in the harness do not always occur where they are indicate on the schematic.

Be patient and make sure everything is clean/greased and you will be good to go for many years to come.
