Been thinking the same thing since my dash is gutted and chopped to hell now and I`m thinking about removing the ft. corner in line w/the pillars which would allow the down bars to run cleanely down the ft. pillars somewhat hidden...........

Not an A-Body either but mine is an E-Body. As mentoned can't get any closer to weld around or get the trim piece back on.

Here's my version, any tighter and I couldn't get the screws back in the trim. I probably had the a pillar tube in and out of the car twenty times to get the dash pad the way I wanted it. I had to weld it in with a pencil torch.

Mine went through the metal part of the dash. I did some additional metal work to make the bar blend into the dash.

Here is what it looked like before the dash went back in.

That is SUPER NICE... now I'll ask... where is the
slit in the dash pad or did you use that vinyl repair
to hide it... looks super nice... I think the best
I ever seen
Dave I like how you molded in the dash to the bar

There is no slit in the dash pad, the tubes went straight down through the windshield opening, through the dashpad and dash, and then were rotated into the halo. Lots and lots of test fitting and meticulous notching and trimming. It took alot of patience but I knew how I wanted it and would except nothing less.

said thats the best I ever seen...... VERY NICE...

the body on... then added the dash

Thanks Mike, through all the cusing and swearing, bitching and moaning, and second guessing myself as to "Why I didn't take the easy route" the work pays off when somebody like you notices. Thanks again Jody

Jb Im very glad you posted that pic along with the fact that you had that one bar in and out of the car so many times.
All guys want that nice of a fit but think that you should be able to do it in 1 try. And flip out when you tell them what it will cost. Quality work cost. Very nice work by the way!

OK I'll bite. How much to do 68 Dart in moly (8.50 Cert) with swing out door bars? The car is stripped to a bare shell at present

I guess train wreck would be a pretty fair description of mine as well.
It showed me that things like that should be left up to professionals with the patience of a saint.... and am very happy that most of my handiwork is covered up and hidden from sight.

Hey John, even if your dash bars don't fit perfect, every other aspect of your car is perfect looking. I can't wait to see it in person, hurry up and get it done. Thanks Jody

Thank you everyone, I am a fabricator for a living, so where most people walk up to a car and notice the level of the body and paint, I walk up to a car and notice the fabrication skills. I have looked at hundreds and hundreds of cages over the years and the one thing most of them have in common is the fit thru the dash is marginal. I knew that if I noticed the fit on others cars that others would notice the fit on mine, so I tried to make it nice. Thanks again Jody
