Driving my '64Dog to work this morning, nothing seeme3d wrong until I tried to straighten out the parking job, first the wheel was hard to turn then it turns free! Boy am I blessed to have it happen in a parking lot and not going downhill at 45mph!

when i was 16 yrs old I learned why you dont "JUST" hammer a alum steering wheel adaptor on with out the shaft nut to hold it down. took out a phonebooth on a corner at 25mph when it came off in my hands from turning a power steer car with no pump hooked up. it was ok..it was a pontiac. now, where do you find a steer box for a 64Dog???

Thanks, but...The box is securely mounted, the Pitman arm is still attached, and the rag joint is also. When I turn the wheel, it just spins around and around and around. The shaft going into the box is turning, but the output shaft isn't.
It's a recirculating ball box. It's a Saginaw 525, which is very popular in the aftermarket. So parts shouldn't be that hard to find, but I've got to get it off first, and it isn't at the house!

Sounds about right...they NEVER break at the house.

The steering box on my dad's 71 did the same thing several years ago. Luckily I was driving it slowly(25 mph) through a curvy section of country road when it let go. I almost filled my shorts, but i managed to stop before I went in the ditch. I replaced the box with another I had laying around.
