I wonder sometimes that why no Chevy or Ford perforrmance cars never fell into SS/AA and A and tried to run against the Hemi Cudas and Darts ? I mean I know the Chevy Camaro ZL1 was built so I thought to compete against the 68 Hemi cars and would not Fords Boss 429 Mustang fall into this class ? I know there are different weight brakes and all but to me this would be the ultimate GM , Ford vs Mopar rivalry of the 60's and 70's with their lightest cars with their baddest bigblocks. I know this is basically what Pro Stock did but why did Ford and GM never go after the 68 Hemi cars in the same SuperStock class ? Ron

There was a corvette with a ZL-1 type motor that was (and is) legal in SS/A but it was never competitive. That was one of the driving forces in making the SS/AH class. That way they could just hit the index instead of being forced to slow the cars down, which the fans would not have liked.

Your right Kevin as I realize they Ford and Chevy may not been real competitive on the weight break but I would have thought Ford and GM would have pushed some to make a competitive car to go against the bad a$$ Mopars. Ron

The Armstrongs from Canada, Nova Scotia I believe that have a Vette that is fast and it runs SS/AA and BA its not quite as fast as the AH cars but he's the closest 8.50s I think. Dave Thomases Vette from the Philly area runs AA and BA also he has the BA record at an 8.82 but not as fast as the Armstrongs. He also has a Drag Pack Challenger and had a 68 Hemi car years ago.

If memory serves me correctly, they allowed the 69 L71 or L88 into A or AA in the mid to late 90's. I think there was only one that answered the call. I think NHRA dropped them because there wasn't enough participation.
