I am looking to ditch my old Hooker 2" Super Comps, but can't find anything that will fit with my mini torque starter. I have two sets of 1 3/4" headers in my garage (Summit and Headman) and neither one of them fit. I have called Flowtech and Hooker and both say that their headers won't fit with the mini starter even though the current Hookers do fit.

So my conclusion is that they don't really know and are just blowing me off. I am planning to pull the motor for a Hemi build within a year or two, so the TTI's would be a big investment that wouldn't bolt back in. Are there any sub $300 headers that will fit? The car has a 440, PS, Eddy heads, and the mini torque starter.

Or, pick up a reman. original starter and run that until the Hemi is ready.

Why you ditching the Hookers? Plug to header issues?

I have a couple of old core starters, but that big heavy starter is just so weak.

I bought the Hooker headers used and they were kind of banged up. The guy assured me that they were off a 69 B body, but the header tubes touched the plugs. I had to beat them in pretty good to get clearance and I still had to run a shorty Accel plug.

Now I am running the MSD fuel injection and it is really sensitive to exhaust leaks. The headers appear to be leaking around the exhaust ports when I looked at the new gaskets. When I let off the gas, I get a faint popping through the pipes as well. I feel like the exhaust leaks are the issue.

Those look really nice, but I hate to spend $534 the bare one that will go in the trash after next year when the Hemi makes its appearance, hehe.

How about a mini starter that will clear the headers you have?

I think your mini starter would be the ticket for him to switch to the cheapy headers ... his issue is the mini with the cheapy headers , he can reuse the starter with the hemi ...

I have a set of hedman 1 7/8 that clear the mini starter, but they don't make this model of header anymore. I don't know how they will work with angle plug heads though.

1) Cut the flanges apart to "seperate" the tubes

2) Use a OEM exhaust manifold gaskets cut to match the seperated flanges.

I run a mini started with hooker comp's (1-7/8") and have no issues whatsoever. Mine is a low-deck block in a 67 B-body, though there appears to be plenty of clearance below the starter, and an RB would actually create more room by moving the header a little further outboard of the block (???).

Yeah, same deal here. I run the Hooker 1 and 7/8" headers on a 440 with a mini starter and no problems at all.

I'll try some of the tips and then see what happens.
