I posted this in the resto section, perhaps the wrong place. I'm trying to identify which valve is the correct one for 71 pwr disc floating caliper / drum Satellite.

According the FSM I need both a proportioning valve which also connects to a metering valve supplying the ft brakes but it also says " if used" in the diagram regarding the metering valve. I assume I need both the prop. & meter valves to function properly. It does show the Fixed Caliper Disc as not using a metering valve, whats the reason for that?

Since the diagram says " Barracuda" can an I assume an e-body valve setup is identical to a B body?

heres a scan from the FSM...

Can I also assume the flat machined brass style prop & meter valves are the kind I should chase?

I'm looking to acquire one not replace an existing one as I never had one to start with. Just trying to ID the proper one before I buy.

Anyone know which part is the correct aftermarket ones, there's seemingly tons of them.

Thx!

Reading between the lines, it seems like you are retrofitting a B-body with a factory package that could have been ordered on your car. Best place is restoration forum. Give it some time, like a day or two. Adding the factory diagrams can help.

In general, you are looking for a combination distribution block with brake warning switch and proportioning valve. You'll need a Parts book to see if they were shared across B and E and varius options. Clearly the '71 FSM indicates a metering valve in addition to the combo block. I can only guess that they found the relationship of the master cylinder to front brakes needed some reduction.

To give you a little background, the disk brake systems of the '60s generally had a distribution block and then a seperate proportioning valve in the line to the rear brakes. This was later combined into a single block.

A couple of other searches you can do while waiting for the experts who will know the intricacies what the factory did. One is go to www.imperialclub.org and see what was in the Master Technicians Service Conference for 1971. The other is to go to http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/TSBs.shtml and see what you can learn from the service bulletins etc.

Cool, thanks - want to sell it

when I got the car as a project it didn't come with a valve setup. When I started chasing it I realized how many variations are out there for different models & years which is what is a bit confusing - does it or does it not need a metering block, is it a combo setup, is it just a prop valve, etc...

anyways, thanks for the suggestions, if E body vale setup are identical at least I can look there as well.

The one I bought looks exactly like flypapers. The eBay one looks a little different. I don't have a review of how they work.
