I've got a used OEM forged 440 crank and it occurred to me that I have no idea whether it's compatible w/ a manual trans or not. What would the dimensions of the pilot hole be for a crank that would accept the standard bronze input shaft bushing? Thanks.

How much of a press fit is required? And any idea how big the ID of the hole in the cranks that were NOT intended for manual transmissions was for comparison?

Some info for you. The first thread has the pilot hole sizes.

And from that, the answer is: "If the crank is finish reamed for a bushing the bore will measure .9375". Cranks that are only pilot drilled but not finish reamed will measure about .8125"."

And the bearing that sits in the torque converter ring makes this question much less important. Usually there is some sort of hole drilled in the crank and the nose of the input shaft will fit inside. If it's not drilled, you shorten the input shaft with a cutoff wheel.
My '86 318 had such a hole and the input shaft fit in no problem, the engine was out of a Fifth Avenue which never had a manual transmission option.

I went thru the same thing a few months ago, 73 440 had the hole deep enough but not finish reamed.
I used a mid 90s magnum 318 roller pilot bearing from napa.
