hello all this is my first time posting on the forum. I am hoping someone can help me out. I purchased a 66 fury 3 (my first mopar)she has a 318 poly in her. I have learned very quick that it is chore to find parts for this motor So i am looking in to doing a swap, but im not sure what i can drop in it without alot of hastle.I believe it has a torqueflite 727? can anyone confirm this? and what motors will bolt up?

you shuld be able to swap in any later carburated 318-360 with no problems, I'm pretty sure the bellhousing pattern is the same. And I'm not sure if it's a 727 or a 904, usually the later 318's had a 904 but not sure what they did in 66?

all poly 318's had the 727.
it is neutrally balanced.

any small block will bolt up, but only neutrally ballanced motors will bolt up without any extra parts.

for instance the magnum 5.9 bolts up, but you need a special balanced flex plate for it to work, or you need to add weights to the torque converter.
5.2 magnum is neutrally balanced and would bolt right up with the approprate magnum flex plate.

the LA 318 would bolt up with no extra parts.

and you would have 1 bolt hole on the driver side that doesn't line up.

since it is a regular 727 not cable, any 66 and up 727 will bolt up and use the same linkages, so you could take any motor and transmission set and bolt it in. including BB.

just depends on what you are trying to save/keep.

What parts are you having trouble finding? Stuff like water pumps starters and alternators can be had anywhere as well as plugs and points.

Exhaust manifolds are famous for cracking especially the driver's side, and they are hard to find. If you find a set, take them to a machine shop and have the flanges milled because they are ALL warped and that is what cracks them. If yours aren't cracked do the same so they stay that way.

To answer your question, any LA motor will bolt in but as was posted a 360 will need a special B+M flexplate or a torque converter with a balance weight welded on it because it is externally balanced.

The 66 Charger when the poly blew we put a later LA in.Bolted right up.You might have to go to 67 exhaust pipe as the polys are different. We went headers on the Charger so it didnt matter.Rocky

318 no. 360 maybe.
one of the mounts is too narrow. you could stack spacers/washers to take up the slack and you would be fine. people do that all the time.

Also, pay attention to which side of the motor your new LA has the lower water pump hose on.
