We saw a solid roller stock 360 block make a tad over 600--had aluminum rods. Caps were walking at teardown but hey, she was running good. They did look like they had been taking all they could stand but I have seen big blocks look worse. They were studded stock caps and it was stock stroke, high CR

I have a 1972 360 block in the Demon. No fill, ARP bolts and .04 over with a 4.100 crank. Car went 9.68 at 136mph at 3050 lbs. 1400+ runs and going strong. Never on a dyno but is north of 600 a bit. Block was not even sonic checked but I guess I got lucky and it is fairly beefy.
Thats CRAZY!!!!!! 360 .040 with a 4.100 cranks, what cubes does that make?? Can ya give some more specs of your motor???

Also...Reading on FABO,someone stated that if your gonna have over 500hp that you should NOT use motor mounts and use a motor plate or ears. Any truth to that???
you'll be fine with the stock ears on the block. they aint going anywhere...use poly lock engine mounts for the biscuit style, or urethane mounts for the spool type.
i dont believe a stock block would fail under 600 HP IMHO...its always been hearsay from a friend of a friends uncle's brother's cousin...
LOL...Thanks!!!!

Generally....The lighter the car the better the motor holds up all else being equal....detonation occurs under load....so the more load (work) the motor sees the more detrimental the damage becomes. Gearing also comes into play but again generally the lighter the better. I'm farily comfortable at 600hp at up to 3100 or so pounds, I wouldn't build a 600 hp Stroker and put it in a 3600 pound B or E body with slicks though, for that I'd tend to be more conservative and tune for torque and more modest RPM don't chase peak HP, tune for peak torque at moderate RPM and then select the parts (primarily heads and induction) that try to hang on to as much that torque (VE) as possible for as long as you can.....that's the best way to build a long stroke stock block motor, big or small block. Above the torque peak the RATE of crank acceleration under load starts to slow under the parasitic braking effects, peak torque means peak pumping efficiency.

Mike my 408 is pretty basic, 72 360 block, .030 over with Diamond -22cc dish pistons, 10.9-1, tbe rotating assembly is balanced, K-1 4" crank, Comp Star rods, Hughes 260/264 @ .050 flat solid with .628/.633 lift with Hughes 1.6 roller rockers and Hughes EDM lifters. The heads are closed chamber Edelbrocks milled to 55cc, ported by Curtis Bogg and freshened by Ryan J. The intake is a Victor that I deep port matched and has a Biggs 950 HP on it.
I know I left some HP on the table by not using a roller cam, but so far this has been a great little engine. The only thing I do to it is run the valves once a year and change the oil. On 325 radials and 4.10 gears it's been 6.57 in the 1/8 with a 1.38 60' and will go high 6.60s with 1.40-1 60' in the heat in street trim on pump 93. It weighs 3260 with me in it
