Here is the latest.. It's not looking good..

So Phoenix Arizona won't have a local track after March 31st with Firebird closing also..

Starting to look like California..

We are turning into California.

Since this is a family-friendly site.....

Expletive - expletive - gawl-darn, shucks, friggin' and more expletives!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure how else to verbalize my feelings.

Wow,that really blows, sorry to hear this,Ive only been there once myself, nice place.
I can tell you though that when LACR closed a few years ago,our area felt it in a number of different ways, local restaurants, parts stores,{especially the speed shop I work at},felt the economic impact,,hopefully someone within the government there will realize this will probably happen there as well....good luck

There will be some heavy street racing around the valley for sure if these tracks close. These idiots don't care because it just creates revenue for the county/city/state for busting street racers and impounding cars for auction, etc. Email Brewer and "CC" Cindy McCain; she is a hot rodder and has a car.

I really don't understand the state's position for wanting to close the facility.

Can anybody shed some light on their reasoning?

Well, since the State owns the land, I'm guessing they think they can make a bunch more money by getting rid of the racetrack.

The Volvo/Ford proving grounds are very close by.. Maybe they want the land..

Chris..

Just add Fontana, Firebird and Speedworld to this picture..

Well that sucks...Does not sound good for Speedworld as it appears the state has made up it's mind already.

After listening to the arguments on both sides for a while now, my contention is - Egotism problems - both sides. Racers - in the middle - and will eventually take the hit.

Albuquerque Dragway just placed 320' of new concrete, guess I should feel lucky even though the DA is always 8000' or more.

I was told by a source, that I believe to be reliable, that the state of Az recently lost a lawsuit over a motorsport related death on state land. This was NOT drag racing related. Because it cost the state a cool million dollars, they no longer want ANY form of motorsports on state owned land! I have no way to confirm this story, but it sounds plausible

Pretty sure that isn't the case. If anything they'd want the property across the street from the facility if they were to expand. Speedworld is kitty corner to it.

Honestly, losing the dragstrip is a shame, but even more unfortunate will be the loss of the FIVE motocross tracks, the stadium truck course, BMX track, etc. That facility was awesome.

It's probably being done with the prodding and blessing of the city of Surprise. The race tracks put a damper on what they can build out there due to the noise.

I believe it's all about the almighty dollar and who has the most of them. In AZ that's the real estate developers. I'm sure someone is already mapping out the next "master planned community".

IMO, the area would make an excellent automotive industry industrial park similar to what they have done in Las Vegas.

I live in Wittmann 4 miles from the track. The thought of the track closing makes me sick.

This blows and I don't even live there. Is Firebird closing a done deal?

Does this leave ANY dragstips in AZ? Whatever happened to the old Beeline track??

Wow.

Guess I better quit complaining about only having Sac and Sonoma within a couple of hours from home...
