Well, my car(74 swinger) is supposed to be back from the painter at the end of this month so i am looking at what wiring harness would be a good choice. Right now i am looking at the kwik wire

http://stores.homestead.com/ez2wire/-strse-38031/AMC-Jeep-Chevy-Chevrolet/Detail.bok

and the American Auto wire
http://www.americanautowire.com/highway22.html

Any opinions? others i should be looking at? Looking to have a decent sound system, EFI, electric fan, eventually power doors.

Thanks
Ryan

Use the factory like made by M&H, sold by Year One. They are great !!! That is what I used on my 70 Sport Satellite . . . .

Cheers

I've used hotrod style harnesses & I've used stock harnesses, 95% of the time I would use the stock harness... Most cars I suggest a OE harness but I add relays to run high draw components like the headlights & blower motor taking the load off the original switches, connectors & wiring while supplying full power to the components....

I agree
. There's nothing like having everything fit correct with all new plugs.
M&H cost more but you get good quality

When you have the cluster out & are hanging the harness to the bottom of the dash frame. the tangs line up with the loops perfect & ALL of the wires are the correct length & color as factory. The other guys you need a wiring diagram for GM to figure out

yea he does wonderful work if you like bad crimps all over your new harness.

do yourself a favor and stay away from that garbage.

few guys in this thread alone had the same issue with the evans garbage. https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...part=1&vc=1

I'm sure most any of the kits mentioned above would work great! I put a Painless Wiring Universal Mopar harness (P/N 10127) in a '68 b-body this past summer. Here's couple of things I can share about how that went: If you want it to look stock don't get this kit (sounds like this probably doesn't matter), as it does away with the multi-pin connector at the firewall. The kit also uses an 80 amp maxi-fuse between the alternator and the harness. The kit is designed for a stock style Mopar alternator. You'll have some extra wires if you want to run a one wire alternator. The Painless Mopar harness is colored coded with the factory Chrysler colors and the the kit includes the factory style wire connectors. These need to be installed by you, with a crimper using the existing plastic portion of your plug in connectors - so the factory plug in connectors are retained. The crimp connectors are very difficult to install if you do not have the correct crimping tool (I didn't). Each wire is also coded by number and has the name of the connection printed on it - maybe all these kits have that, it is extremely nice! The instructions with this kit are specific to a Mopar, and are not for a "universal" installation. which is nice. However, the dash portion and steering column portions of the harness are designed for a '71 and up Mopar (the kit is designed to retain the stock dash). The dash and steering column connections are close for other years but not exact. I had a schematic of the factory harness and was able to figure out the dash and column, but it took me forever! Good luck with whichever one you pick!

Thanks for all the posts, i really appreciate it, after looking at all the kits and what i want to do with my dart. (new gauges, efi, single wire alt) i decided to go with the Highway 22 kit as i got a pretty good deal on it, and i think it will fit the bill pretty well.

So my next question is what tools/hardware is everyone using, as my crimpers/strippers are a pain doing a few wires. It'll be a nightmare doing a whole car. Also do you route the wires like the factory? any tips/hints would be great. Still a few weeks away from getting the dart back and probably start with the wiring before anything else.

Thanks
Ryan
