The way these events are run and the schudles are going to cause a decrease of attendence and maybe the demise of many of these events.

Advertising. When was the last time you heard a drag strip advertise its weekend races? Used to hear that Saturday! Saturday! Nitro at the strip! advertisements all the time. Can't explain why the strips don't advertise anymore. There's got to be a lot of interest in hot cars, holy cow I see literally dozens of TV shows promoting modifications to stock cars, and then there's Pinks all out and shows like that. Maybe its because the old grudge racers that used to tour the tracks are all gone. Muldowny and Gartlits must have made thousand of trips down the track in their battles.

I agree that its the economy and people are just getting
by.... heck look at how long it takes a guy to get
his engine back together if he breaks it... in some
cases its a few years.... parts arent cheap and I
dont know many people that make their living running
a race car

I hate to say this, but I'm kinda glad the spectator count is down.Seems like everytime there is a big turn out of spectators they all have to walk on the return road, break beer bottles in the pits, they have to stop the races 3-4 times to clear them off the starting line!

We noticed an uptick in car counts towards the end of the year. At least on the Divisional level anyway. As for the loca deal we have gotten decetn turnouts due to tracks closing and with Firebird next on the list that will likely continue. From what I heard the turnout at bakersfield was not real stron last weekend nor was it good in Sacrament raceway either for the annual New Years race.

I have never understood the cost they charge for spectators. Take a local track to me Brainerd for a divisional race. If I take my family of 4 it costs me $60 to get in for a family w/2 teenage kids add that to a 100 mile round trip @ $4 a gallon I have almost $75 before walking in. Make entry $5 bucks a person and you will make it up in concessions and souvenir sales. Plus adding more people in the seats and you may just get fringe fans which is what makes other sports the most money. Otherwise it will eventually be an old guy track rental type event as stated.

What was I thinking....
