should have asked before i ordered.
replacing the thumpr cam in the wagon 413, stock 906 heads, rpm intake, 850 holley vacuum secondary. ( .486/.473 279/296 108lsa) with a bracket master 2

.480/.480 292 adv dur. 109lsa.

car has a 2600stall and 3.23's.
car is a dog with this thumpr cam, of the line, on the hiway, it just sucks.
i realize thew 3.23's probably aren't helping, but it was that or the 4.10's, and i've put almost 10,000 miles on the car in 8 months of time.

Would the bracket master be a good choice for this combo, even with the 3.23's?
I'sd prefer not to go more than 3.91's, and even that's a lil much. as most rides are 2 hour jaunts.

If you mostly just cruise it the 383-440 Magnum cam would be a good choice. A smaller version of the "Thumper" correctly degreed in would work nice, too.

the 906 heads by themselves will probably knock the compression down to low 9's. if your using a fel-pro type gasket that might get you below 9:1 compression. the 850 carb may be a little large, added with low compression, and maybe a little too much cam, and negatives can stack up. you may also have a fuel delivery issue if your using a stock type mech pump. i'd re-think the whole combo.

Can't say it'll work for your combo, but my dad has that cam in his '65 Coronet 440. 9:1, performer rpm, 3000 stall, and 3.73 gears. Seems to be great for my dad's combo.

I bet it was improperly installed. degreeing a cam is a must!

That cam should be fine I would install it at 101 or 102 mechanical advance 38 all in by 1800 and make sure the vacuum advance is on ported vacuum plugged and disconnected for initial set up and later when all is right on ported vacuum only it has a set up all it's own later to tune out any ping at light throttle accleration.

I am running the comp extreme hydraulic in my 413 with big valve 906s and a 750 vac. I havent got it out much yet because of the snow but she sure sounds sweet! 3" exhaust and flowmasters..

Yea gotta love 3" exhaust but you don't have to love flowmasters
Im a Dynomax 3" welded kinda guy!

The 750 is a good pick for a carb on a combo like that.

Degreeing the cams is SO IMPORTANT anyone who has had a sour taste in there moth from a cam almost always had it in retarded with the dots lined up when most like a couple extra degree of advance to be real happy.

Seen two new Mancini brand 3 bolt 3 keyways in the straight up position 6 retarted that makes for dogs. look like they are Chinese made.

I'm no fan of the Thumper line. Buying a cam for sound is like buying a pair of Converse All Stars to play golf in because you wore them when you were younger.
You're over cammed and over carbed. I'd step down to something in the 220° @ .050 range and with lift in the .480-.490 area and you'll be much happier. I also agree that degreeing any new camshaft is a must.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.
