Car has no eng/trans. My VIN on title is XP29C8B_____ THE C DESIGNATES SPECIAL ORDER 6 CYL. IT IS HARD TO TELL ON DASH VIN IF IT IS C OR G. no fender tag, car has buckets, console, clutch pedals. I'm thinking it may have been a 383 car. any ideas?

383 2bbl is G, not sure what kind of special order 6 could've been had if the VIN is in fact XP29C....never seen one personally. You'll be able to tell the difference between /6 engine mounts and V8 style tho. Or is the k member still there?

the the other thing that throws me if it is a G= 383 2 bbl with a stick would be odd. I have seen on other websites that G is for 383 2 bbl and 383 hi-po. The K member is still there. The guy I got it from had a 440 auto in it. Looks like someone cut the 4 speed hump out and put in part of an auto tunnel in. It looks crude, definitely not factory looking.

Rad support won't have the engine code on it tho...just year, plant and sequence number. 383/4bbl would be an H code. Im sure some have been made, but ive never seen an XP29H8 charger. Kinda like an H code sport satellite. You'll have to dig and look for those tell tale signs of its former life. Alot more likey a G than an H, considering the shape of C and G.

The/6 was available in a Charger late in the 68 model year but it wasn't a 'special order'. It was a standard option and it would have coded "B" in the VIN not C.
As stated above, it is more likely that the 'tail' is missing from the "G" making it look like a "C" and this was a 383-2bbl car. (example below) Look at the shape of the letter. A true "C" will be a little wider than a "G". A "G" appears taller and thinner than a "C". Also notice the proportions of the top and bottom of the right side on the letter. The "G" has a little taller 'bottom' than the top. A "C" would be more symetrical on the top and bottom.
