Call a cam company and give them your specs and they will recommend a cam for you. That is your best bet.

I ran a combo close to that in my 63 before with the MP .557 cam but I used 906 heads and the Holley Street Dominator intake and it had 10.0 comp. In my 3700 lb 63 it ran a best of 11.49 @ 116. On my new eng I dedided to call Dwayne Porter and have him spec and grind a cam to my combo and I love it. He is very good if you decide to call someone I would call Dwayne. Also he nitrided the cam and sold me the EDM solid lifters with the small hole in the bottom for oil to get on the lobe. Ron

I run an Engle KV-3 grind (252* @ .050 and .573 lift, square pattern) and like what it does. Jeff Patterson helped me with this choice. Best advice (as already said) is to call a couple of cam companies, and talk to them about what you want. Your combo is basically the same as mine in an RB Block, so I can offer that mine is streetable, but offers good punch all the way to 6500. FWIW: What I WOULDN'T do is build a motor as a stop gap. All you're doing is taking money from the build that you really want. If you want big cubes, you're only a crankshaft away with what you have now. You're into this motor at least 5k, and a Source arm is only another $800.... doesn't make much sense to me??? But, the other side is that 446 is plenty of cubes to make an E-body run strong. I guess what I'm saying is: whatever you build, build it right and don't think of it as a stop gap. We all want the Indy headed 512, but building the motor and driving the car are WAY more fun than dreaming and wishing. So be realistic about your budget and how long you're willing to be patient, and execute that plan.

Gary, I see your point completely. Honestly it would be best for me to build the 512 10 years down the road. IF I can build this motor with only 3k or so into it and run mid 11 and have fun with the car that's what ill do. So far I am only 1800 into it(minus carb), and have everything but rod bolts and camshaft and machine work. And if I don't start enjoying this car soon, ill end up selling it.

Fellow racers here want to see you get the most blast for your buck- and that could be a better combo with some horse trading. You have a better goal in mind than the plan you present, so why not put the thinking cap on and see what you can do to achieve that better goal in the short run? In the 1970s, I had a burning desire to build a bigblock, but no money to speak of. I started selling/swapping parts, anything that had value. Keep in mind that when you place an add to sell, most interested partys that have something to trade/swap are willing to take less than real value for it just to get what they need. Like trading in a used car. No dealer (that stayed in business long!) ever gave retail value for a trade. It took me about six months and lots of adds, but a minor miracle occurred, and my $50 turned into $3,000! You have some parts to work with to start. It would be great to see a post from you down the road where you were able to finagle a new set of rods and lighter pistons at least. It can be done! Good luck with it.

A set of rods and pistons would change the entire game for me, you are correct. . But am I wrong thinking this can be a reliable and strong combination? I know there are better piston and rod choices.

The aggressiveness of the .904 profiles make me nervous really. I agree that I don't want a lazy chevy profile either. Have people ran the .904 based camshafts on the street with good luck?
I've installed several in engines I've built for the street with no problem I believe Comp's extreme energy Hi-Lift hyd are on a .904 grind and all the Hughes cams as well just make sure the oil you use has zddp in it, and it wouldnt hurt to add a bottle of comp cams break in additive
