Those running front drive distributors and external oil pumps on a small block. What are you using to plug your distributor hole? Freeze plug? Does anyone make an o-ringed plug that clamps down?

Spin up a piece of alum to fit with the O-ring groove...
shouldnt take more than a hour or so... and it would
look nice

AndyF makes them. You can get them from Hughes Mancini and probably several other places.

Don't you still need something to keep pressure down on the oil pump drive???

Cut of original distributor.

That's what I did for my BB, principle is the same though, although I needed to hold down oil pump drive.

On a BB front mounted distributer the rotation keeps the drive loaded in the downward position.I can't say for fact the same on a rear mounted distributer on a SB.We usually cut the bottom from an old distributer and use the lower cut part of the shaft. We thread a pipe plug in the upper end and pack it with grease, just for piece of mind.Always make sure you have a few thousnds clearence so that your not pushing the gear into the bushing.

I make a few different plugs for that application. I have ones with a long shaft to hold the pump drive in place, or short ones for dry sump applications.

That one will work but it is thicker than stock so it requires a different hold down. It was designed for storage, not use in a running engine.

AR364 is a similiar design but has a thin top that fits the stock hold down. Then there is a short shaft version for 383 engines and a long shaft one for RB engines. I don't have a SB version at the moment but one of the others could probably be modified to work.

Best Machine usually has them in stock. They buy parts like this since they typically build higher end engines with goodies like belt drive pumps, dry sump setups, belt driven distributors, etc.

Andy small block and RB are very close in length so it wouldn't be hard to tweak the RB to have it work in a smallblock.

Thanks for the info.
When I looked at your web site, I only found 221 and 295 with the extension down to the oil pump drive.

I cut down a bone yard distributor and shaft , then made a plug out Delrin ( nylon like plastic ) , packed it with grease and away we go.
15.00 and about 1/2 hr.

I had a customer request a short version so I built a batch of the new AR364 parts. I have them in stock but the website hasn't been updated yet.

you dont have to hold the pump drive/distributor gear down.... the natural direction on the 2 spinning forces the shaft down towards the pump....Ducktape would work
