Hi all, looking for your recommendations on a fuel pump for my 500 stroker, 6 Pack , MP .557 solid cam, 1.6 rockers. Will be running a 4-speed with a 3.54 gear, street driven, occasional strip. I was considering the Carter M4862 strip mechanical but will 8-8.5 PSI be too much for the street? Would carter street pump be better? Other suggestions? Thanks.

I have found that with todays fuels you are asking for vapor locking trouble with a mechanical pump. Todays fuels vaporize/boil at much lower temps than in the old days. Just like a radiator cap raises the pressure to also raise the boiling pont, the higher the fuel presure that you run will also raise the boiling point of the fuel. If you lower the pressure (vacuum) the fuel will boil at an even lower temp. That hot mechanical pump sucking fuel from the tank is no where near as desireable as a cool electric pump pushing fuel up to the carb.
My personal preference with my cars is....on my cruiser GTX 450 hp is a Mallory Comp 110 no regulator needed as they are set at 7psi and on my higer hp cars 500-600+ hp is a Comp 140. they are very quiet and durability has been excellent.

I was using the red Holley pump preset at 7 PSI but I stepped up to the Firecore 140 Pump with the reg when I put my 493 in my 63. The pump has worked real good and you can get them from a member here (SunroofGTX) . Both are electric pumps. Ron

Red or Blue Holley is what I'd use.

use a Walbro GSL-392 good for 600 boosted EFI HP, Fuel Pump is $100.00 and it is super quiet. The Walbro is the least expensive and most efficient fuel pump
