OK I'm confussed. My previous set up on my 360 was a TQ with the Bouchillon kick down cable to the 727 transmission. The tranny shifted fine with this set up. Now I changed the TQ to a Holly 670 Street Avenger. I set the kick down lever all the way back and the carb linkage wide open and attached the cable, tighten the adjustment. I notice the kick down lever does not travel all the way forward with the carb linkage at idle. Now the tranny does not want to shift into 2 until around 35 mph, with just a slow cruise acceleration. Is there something I'm missing? I did attach the special cam on the Holly for the kickdown linkage. I'm wondering if the travel in the Holly linkage is not enough for the kick down to come forward enough. Any idea's from you Holly guys?

i chased a similar problem with a lokar setup for a while a few years ago. youll have to modify the linkage so that you can get full travel forward or youll keep having the higher rpm shift points. you might have to drill a new hole in the carb. lever or put on another lever that will allow more travel.

All the way bacxk is a starting adjustment point. You have to fine tune from there. loosen it up a little at a time until you're happy with the shift points.

I was going to try some "fine tunning" and see if that helps, which will mean that the kd lever on the tranny would not be all the way back. I guess I'm wondering how far from all the way back can you go without getting into trouble, 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch?

As long as it is going back a 1/4 to 1/2" loose won't hurt. The deal is that it must be working. All the way back is not necessary to make it work right. I think you will find the sweet spot before you back it off a 1/2"

I usually have about 1/8 inch between the rear of the slot (when held way back) and the KD rod at wide open throttle and go from there. Make sure that you have the light spring from the belcrank to the carberator throttle pin pulling the KD linkage into contact with the throttle at all times. This insures that there is linkage movement throughout the travel of the throttle ensuring proper throttle pressures through out the travel to govern shift points.

MIne was doing the same thing and I found it was getting hung up on the side of the throttle cable. It was rubbing it enough to prevent it from returning all the way.
