I have an 01 ram that the check engine light came on. The code scan (dont recall the number) was for a gas cap issue or a vacuum leak. I installed a new gas cap and repaired a hose leak to the purge solenoid to the gas tank vent system. My question is will the light go off on it's own (without disconnecting the battery)once the system runs a scan and determines the leak is fixed? If so how long will it take?

My 01 Dakota had the check engine light come on.I went by auto zone and they said it was a vacuum leak.I never could find it.I thought I could hear it though. The light went out after about 30 miles. It happend 3 or 4 times. Hasnt come back on in a couple years.

You should get it turned out with a scan tool. It may go out on it's own but won't be cleared until you do it with a scanner. Thanks

Go to Advance Auto or Autozone. Both places will do it for free. Just tell them the check engine light is on, and they will run the scan tool for you. If you want then to turn off the light, they will do that, too.

My 2001 Dakota has automatically turned off the check engine light for the evap hose leak. Comes
back on when it's warm outside so it must have a minute leak. To clear codes on your own disconnect the negative battery cable and then hold the key
to the start position for about three seconds.

I've had the same code, mine will reset itself if driven long enough.

Before you replace any gas caps for check engine light codes, clean the O-ring on the cap and the filler neck with WD40.It will fix 98% of the problems.Ispection stations make a lot of money replacing gas caps that are not bad.I know from experience

Simply not installing the gas cap well enough can cause this issue. My wife just did it in her 07. I just checked it myself and cleared it.
