Dodgetony OP mopar addict Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 719 Ohio	I have an 01 ram that the check engine light came on. The code scan (dont recall the number) was for a gas cap issue or a vacuum leak. I installed a new gas cap and repaired a hose leak to the purge solenoid to the gas tank vent system. My question is will the light go off on it's own (without disconnecting the battery)once the system runs a scan and determines the leak is fixed? If so how long will it take?

Worth TX	My 01 Dakota had the check engine light come on.I went by auto zone and they said it was a vacuum leak.I never could find it.I thought I could hear it though.The light went out after about 30 miles. 70duster340 pro stock 7 Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 1,443	Go to Advance Auto or Autozone. Both places will do it for free. Just tell them the check engine light is on, and they will run the scan tool for you. If you want then to turn off the light, they will do that, too.

Desoto member D Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 85 alton, ill	My 2001 Dakota has automatically turned off the check engine light for the evap hose leak. Comes back on when it's warm outside so it must have a minute leak. To clear codes on your own disconnect the negative battery cable and then hold the key to the start position for about three seconds.

Before you replace any gas caps for check engine light codes,clean the O-ring on the cap and the filler neck with WD40.It will fix 98% of the problems.Ispection stations make a lot of money replacing gas caps that are not bad.I know from experience
