How much trouble to swap a 440 into a 88 dodge / 6 pickup? Are there motor mounts available? Are there headers that fit?

You do realize that we have a truck forum here too, right?

Here's a recent post about wanting to put a 383 in a LRE, lots of good info in it:

Good luck!

look the frame area over were the engine mounts bolt up,my 88 long bed had a bolt in motor mount piece on one side for a motor mount to sit on.

with it removed it left no place for the BB or SB mount to sit and would not fit the bolt in piece either.

TBI has in tank pump with lines on wrong side of frame for the BB mech fuel pump. but can be made to work with a regulator on the carb.

if your frame is like the 85 truck frame(it can be or not), it will have 2 sets of holes for the /6-SB-BB mounts to sit and bolt up with the square rubber biscut mounts like a stock 78 BB truck. the BB uses the front 2 holes and SB uses the rear 2 holes.

you need to use the 78 BB truck engine brackets/mounts as the 4x4 mounts are off set and have a hole for the oil pump bolt clearance.

i swaped the 88 cab/clip over to a 85 short frame then used all 78 BB truck parts to bolt it into place. the truck BB wp housing is on the pass side so the stock 88 rad will work for cooling.

you will also need the small 78 BB vac booster for brakes or use a 86 3/4 D250 small brake booster for VC clearance or go manual brakes.

the /6 wireharness just needs some triming and splicing and it fits good.

if you have the truck non -a/c pulleys on your BB a 89-90 120 amp denso mini alt fits right on the stock brackets and works with the stock VR.

which is something to look at on your 88 truck also... does it have the VR on the firewall or is it controled by the pcm??? this could be a problem and needs to by by-passed and a plug/VR spliced in the harness to get it to charge with out the pcm. ( swaped to the 85 harness for this reason)

i run 2 truck center dump mainfolds and have a set of the hedman 79250 headers for it.

Just get a 3/4ton booster/master cylinder for your yr or same era Truck but if you have a donor truck you have pretty much all that's needed.
