I restored my 70 Challenger about 5 years ago. Every wire harnes was replaced and all lights, turn signals worked fine untill a few weeks ago. I still have tail lights and turn signals but no brake lights. I still have power into and out of the brake pedal switch. I've been told that maybe the problem is in the turn signal switch assembly. How do I test this and where would I purchase a new turn signal switch assembly? Thanks!

What about power at the bulb socket when the pedal is pushed? Maybe a wire between the brake switch on the pedal and the socket is bad?

No power at any of the bulbs when brake pedal is depressed. Same socket/bulb has power when turn signal is used.

Do you have a meter? Check continuity between brake light switch wire and wires going to socket?

Just a thought... is the plunger switch working/adjusted right? Like it didn't come away from the pedal?

To confirm a bad turn signal switch, step on brake pedal with key off and flip turn sig switch back and forth while someone watches for any flickering back there.

I had similar problems in a 78 RamCharger long ago, problem ended up being in the emergency flasher switch. It might be something to check.

seperate the dangling electrical connector for the br/ts under the steering column & with your VOM on the column half see if you have continuity between the white "in" wire from the brake pedal switch and the 2 "out" wires to the dr/pass respective brake lights with the stalk in neutral. Not sure of the colors but if in doubt www.mymopar.com will have them for you. Your turn signals work so from the electrical connector behind the DR kick panel rearward you are good

TS switches are notorious for failing.

Other places have 'em, also.

If memory serves, brown is right rear lead, darkgreen is left rear lead, they're adjacent to white lead in the TS harness plug.

Thanks to all that answered. I agree with RapidRobert that the wiring from the DS kick panel back must be good as both turn signals work. I will test the harnes under the colum to the switch and yes the correct colors are green and brown. How difficult is it to replace the switch? Once again thanks to all that chimed in.

Don't know for sure about '70, but if the column is similar to '72, it might be possible to change switch with column still in the car.

Steering wheel needs to come off. Then you SHOULD be able to feed the bottom of end of the TS switch harness plug and wire bundle back up through the wire tunnel that is provided along the underside of the column. Some have attached a flexible wire or string to the bottom harness plug, so that you have a way of pulling the new harness plug back down through the tunnel.
