I was directly behind a guy as he pulled into the burn out box and i know the car is low 11 sec car, i remember thinking "man his head is small" he forgot to put his helmet on, doh! The starter points at his own head. It seems to take him ten mins to figure it out. He fumbled around putting it on the entire starting line staring at him.

Don't feel bad. I ran out of gas...twice...when racing my
bro in his Charger at MATS. BUT, I still won. He red lighted.

I have had a ton. The bigget one that sticks out in my mine was a specific weekend. I was racing the cuda. I had a gorgeous gf at the time. one night we were "gettin it" in the trailer. first pass next day my whole one piece front end flew off at the shut down. Mind you this had nothing to do with her I told her where to put her hands but earlier in the year a front engine dragster backed into the nose weakening the structure. apparently body guy never fixed that. but back to my epic weekend of fail. I decided to race it without a front end and scoop so I borrowed a friends 340 air cleaner. make a hit and its fine. well rd 1 im doing my burnout and my starting line controller rotated just enough to catch the air cleaned coming out of the burnout box and hangs it wide open. I use the toe hook and im on the brakes but by this time there was a kid sweeping the starting line in front of me. of course i hit him and he goes up on the front of the car. the only thing stopping him was the air filter stud!!! oh and in the process of hitting him I also took out Mark Lyle which is now the NHRA starter. he tried pushing the kid out of the way and my passenger side tire got him. I like to forget about that weekend except the night before!

That is more like a epic fail weekend..wow

Was anyone hurt bad?!

Several years back my son & I and and a few other mud racers decided to run up to a mud race track we were never at before, After many years of running flat tracks 8 to 12 inches deep I kinda took it for granted that some other folks like it a bit deeper, I was the first one to run for the day and when pulling up to stage the fella asked me to pull a cable with me and drop it @ the finish line if I made it out.... Well I kinda laughed inside and said Na.. I wont need it... So as we always do I rolled up 30 feet to pack a track <standard opperating procidure in a flat track> and sank my truck to the hood and had no way of getting back out It took an hour and a very large excavator to dig me out, It did not go over so well with the local crowd, they consumed a lot of beer in that hour and kept yelling ... let the retarded fella try again.... It just wasn't my best showing

made the show on pinks all out. I was nervous as hell the TV cameras were rolling. I Did my burn out and totally forgot my routine. I normally do the burnout roll into the first light. Shift to neutral clean it out and stage. This time I went straight to the light waited for the other guy and staged. When I launched the car made a terrible sound as I realized I was in 3rd gear with a 200 shot on a full throttle switch. Needless to say that tranny came out. Rich and Ken got a chuckle out of it though..

A number of years ago when I got back into racing the car had not seen the track for twenty years, most of those the car set outside. The first run was a wheels up run down the track and was uneventful , engine ran perfect, trans shifted OK and even the brakes worked. Noticed as I was coming back on the return road that no cars were coming down the track, the starting line crew was sweeping up all the rust that fell off when I dumped the clutch.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I had just bought my Dak RT I just sold so summer 04. Local track and I'm as green as the grass. All these 9/10sec rides are going around the burnout box and backing into it. Seems like the right thing to do right? SO, I follow suit like a big shot, smokes billowing, hit OD and lift of the break....still in reverse. Good thing we don't have a wall behind the track...just a good 40 FT to the staging lanes. So thankful no one was behind me waiting to stage. When I staged, my boss who still runs the tree, kindly told me to roll up my windows. Both of them.

Fast forward to summer 09, fresh 347/4speed in my friends 79 cobra. 10.80s NA fast. Sometimes i drive but hes a better stick wrangler. Launches hard like always, hits second and my buddy idles back to the pits. WTF? He was pissed as he didn't even take his slip. So I follow back to the trailer and he gets out of the car and pitches his shifter handle about 50 ft....we had threw the new clutch in the night before, had a case of CANADIAN beer and one of us just put the shifter bolts on finger tight. After a few passes, they had rattled loose and off came the handle.
