Well I'm trying to track down a cooling problem I'm having and decided to replace my under driven march pulleys on the 440 to the stock ones to see if that would help.

Of course I ran into some problems otherwise I would not have wrote this post.

440, alternator, Power steering, was a A/C car in the past. Unknown on the 440 yr model. Has what appears to be a fluid damper and march pulleys. They all line up.

I bought two pulleys from 440 Source. Single v Water pump and double V crank.

The double crank is way off. 2 inches as measure from the first V to the mounting surface vs. 1 and 5/16 I have with the March crank pulley.

The Waterpump appears to be lined up.

Did I order the wrong crank pulley?

Whats up?

Thanks.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

comparing my March to the 440 Source

Side view of the pulleys

Apparently 440 Sources' phones are a little busy today I had to leave a message.

I should of asked questions before buying. I assume these motors were pretty much the same.

Maybe my fluidampnr is the wrong one for the motor?

Nothing wrong with those pullies from 440Source, they are correct for a factory damper. You have an aftermarket damper which is much thicker than a stock one.

Thanks

That's what I was leaning towards but because I do not have a stock damper to compare to I'm kind of at a loss if that is what it is.

I've been doing some other research and it looks like March has a 6.5' diameter crank pulley vs. the 5.25" I have now. I just need to make sure it is the same offset. It looks like there is a application with a Fluidamper too so it that maybe the cause. At about $100 it's a bargain considering I just paid the same for the 440 Source pulleys.

Looks like I'll have a set of new pulleys and belts to go with all the other stuff I bought and never will install.

Well it appears these are my choices.

1. Get a stockish balancer and run with that. From 440 Source it is the High Strength Steel Damper - Chrome plated - New. Price: $129.95

2. Get 440 source’s SFI Fluid damper - Chrome - New. Price: $134.95

3. Get the unlisted Pulley from March Performance at ~ $100 plus 2 more belts at another $15 each. I called March directly for help on this as there was no listing that I saw.

Edit: Sorry did not mention the part # for those of you in the future that may run into this problem the part number is 10169 for the 6.5 inch dual V using the old the Fluidampr

4. Get a new updated Fluidampr 720311 with the correct offset at $393.95 and hope I can sell the old one for something.

5. Get the 4 groove pulley from Bouchillon Performace for $145.

Well I hear there are some problems reading the marks outside in the day with chrome balancers so 1 and 2 are out and removing the old Fluidamper from the 440 maybe a issue in the car (well that and the price ) so I think I will go with the March Pulley at ~$100 plus handling and shipping. Well that and another two more belts at $15 each.

I’ll update if this ends up cooling the motor better than the under driven setup.
