hey folks, i FINALLY managed to acquire an air filter for my Hemi project, https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=1#Post7439018it is an original chrysler 2946186, and the rubber is slightly hardened, but will clean up nice, and the metal perforations look good with no rust or discoloration. only thing, it is used, and i wanted to try to clean the white pleated paper portion of the filter a bit, if possible. so my question is, has anyone ever done this? and what did you use? obviously, i do NOT want to damage this thing, it took me forever to find one, but i would really like to get it up to caliber with the rest of the build, appearance wise..... thanks in advance for any advice folks! D

Some of the industrial filter users use a filter cleaning service (Donaldson?). ...I bet they could clean it.

I don't think you are going to have much luck cleaning that filter without destroying it . What air cleaner assembly is it for ?
it's an oval six pack/dual four style element. they are hard to find these days!

They aren't that hard to find, I've got 5 or 6 in my basement.
Is the element for show ? If so run a K+N and swap on what you have for the show .

You may be able to try some light air pressure from the inside and blow it out. I think the factory service manual shows washing them with solvent. But I think that is for washable type filters. I am not sure the media would hold up against solveant of or excessive pressure.

it will be for show only, and yes, i have a K&N for driving around on....
hmm, no offense to you sir, but you obviously haven't tried to purchase one lately. they are way out of production, and are not easy to find. there a couple hundred guys on here who will probably agree with me on that one. but, i am glad you have some for yourself.
on that note, since you have 5 or 6 laying around, i will gladly purchase one from you for a fair price!

That is the way our service department (Dodge dealership) did it when these cars were new everytime customers had their oil changed.

How many decades old were those filters when they were doing this ?

Curious what a fair price would be. I have one that is really nice. Been using a tall K&N because my setup isn't original or stock. There's also a really old time parts store in town that may have some. I bought all of their ball and trunnion repair kits.
