i had my convertor ste up for my motor 5500 stall, bout 550 hp worked great, was flashing bout 4500. put my new motor in bout 700 hp.
ran on chassis dyno it flashed at 6200. i thought it would be the opposite. should of flashed lower? is this correct?

Converters have a "range" that is affected by the torque & HP of an engine. The stronger the engine, the higher it will "flash".

More TORQUE moves the stall point UP...nothing to
do with HP

Maybe not in your case, but there are applications where the converter stall or flash is closer to the power peak than torque peak.

peak is suppose to be some where around 6800-7000

Would that be peak horsepower? I'll bet it's a big block. I've seen race combos that work well with converters that flash about 1,500 rpm less than the shift points. But it mainly depends on torque peak. Other variables affect the optimum #'s.

I have an A-1 converter that stalled 4800 on a 360 super stock motor and 5500 when I used it in my 408 stroker. All converters are built to stall a certain rpm by a certain torque number,if you move the torque number up the stall rpm goes up.

An Autometer Ultimate playback tach is an excellent tool to see what's going on with converter flash, rpm drops, shift points, etc. You can even see different flash points when the weather changes, mainly between seasons.

Like most race parts you will have to find out what RPM the motor and trans go the fastest at, not a predetermined RPM My first pump gas stroker made peak torque at 4500 RPM and peak HP at 5600 RPM, the stupid car woould run its fastest ET and MPH by shifting it at or above 7200 RPM Go to the track and make a plan to run the car enough to make it consistent and then try shifting it at 5500 RPM in all gears for several runs and then try 6000 RPM for several and then 6500 RPM, the goal is to find the RPM that makes the car the fastest, with me anyways Once you find the RPM spread, say it runs the best by shifting at 6500 RPM but not lower than 6500 RPM or higher than 7000 RPM, try shifting it at 6700 RPM for several runs and whittle a away hundred RPM at a time until you find out what it likes at that track that day

the chassis dyno shows where it flashs, going to call lenny at ultimate and give him the specs so he can reset it. didn't think there would be such a huge difference. probably need to change rearend gears, and bigger tires also!

My converter always flashed higher on the chassis dyno vs real world. Might be something to consider.

same thing here except it stalled at 5900 behind my 408 and 4800 behind a 360.
