Comparing 68-70 Dodge & Plymouth B-body 2 door wheelbase difference. I have been doing a little research & my source states that:

Dodge 2 door is 117"
Plymouth 2 door is 116"

I seem to remember hearing that the front spring mounts in back were shorter on the Plymouths.

My question: Is the difference in the spring mounts the reason for the differing wheelbase lengths ? Was there any difference in floorpans, rocker panels, etc ? Are the 4 door versions the same wheelbase as the 2 doors ?

Hypothetical scenerio: I got a 68 Charger that the underside (rails, floor, torsion bar crossmember) is shot. Prefer using a solid parts donor car instead of aftermarket. Would I have to look for a donor that is strictly 2 door Dodge or would a Plymouth or 4 door ( of either make) work as well ?

Yes the difference is in the spring hangers. Why? Dodge just had to be bigger I guess.
You can use the front clip and pans from a 66-70 2 or 4 door and wagon.
Rear frames from 68-70 2 or 4 door.
Trunk pan and extensions are 68-70 Charger only.

The rear spring hanger box is specific to wheelbase as well. The Plymouth shackle is an inch or so farther forward ,This piece is welded to the frame rail, floor pan and rear crossmember so its not a 10 minute swap.

Is there a difference in the '70 models?

Sorry I should have stated that both front and rear hangers are an inch back on the Dodges.

Thats alright . So in my earlier scenerio, I would be better off using a Dodge donor rather than the Plymouth.

Good info guys!! Differences in where the rear shackle holes are would be hard to spot if replacing a rear frame rail with a donor and not knowing about it. Along the same lines, do the 68-70 plymouth and and dodges use the same roof skin/frame? and if they do, what accounts for the dodge and plymouth pop out rear glasses on post models being different?

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread, but I never got an answer about the difference in the b body rear side glasses and still don't understand how they can use the same roof skin, windshield, back glass and door windows, and need different rear side glasses

Hardtops use the same quarter glass....coupes use different frames and glass.Even the inner steel upper panel that screws on is different between Dodge and Plymouths. The main difference between the two is the way the quarter panel is shaped at the belt line which is why the option belt mouldings and drip trough end cap moulding are different between R's and W's.Pretty minor ,but it's there.Chrysler must have had lots of money to burn through back then.

OK, so basically the quarter comes farther up the glass on one vrs the other? That makes sense. I can see now how that would make a diff.
Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm almost sure that most of the B body Dodges from 1963 or 1964 production cars to 1970 have 119 measured wheelbases Not 117 inch as advertised, just like the 1963 Plymouth B bodys where advertised to have 115 inch wheelbases, not 116 like they had On another subject, most of the Dodge B body driveshafts are longer than the same year and application Plymouth driveshafts The same year and size motors and trans. from both B bodys are interchangeable from one brand car to another My point is the wheel base length differences are behind the trans. crossmembers

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I had a quick question. What is the difference between the 68-70 rear frame rails and the 66-67 rear rails?

66-7 left frame has a hole for the fuel tank filler vent tube.
Also 66-7 had slots for the single fuel tank mounting strap that goes between the frame rails. 68-70 has 2 straps going between the cross members.

Hey yall, just signed up to do some research about B body wheelbase differences and it seems I found some happy news.
I've got a 69 RR with some poorly repaired collision damage from way back and lots of pinholes in the floors and rails. I just picked up a very rust free 68 Coronet 4 dr to use as a donor and was expecting to have to shorten the floor pans and maybe move the rear rails forward.

But this sounds like I should be good to go with stripping the Cnet down to the floorpan and grafting on the RR roof/quarters. Still a lot of work but I can keep the pan assembled (therefore square and level)
So just to confirm: the spring hangers (bolt on brakets) account for the longer wheelbase and maybe the shackle mounts are different?
