Dad was wondering if the 5.7's would bolt up to the original tranny and motor mounts in his 4 wheel drive 98 full size truck? Its just a 318 but only has 50-60K on it. He doesn't want to go buy a different truck to pull with if it is possible to just do an engine swap. I know the wiring is probably different and we were thinking that the plug and play harness' maybe that answer unless others know different.

thanks
corey

no. it's not a bolt in swap.

has it been done? yes, with some minor fabrication work.

there may even be conversion mounts available on the market now, the few instances of guys putting 5.7 Hemi's into Dakota's that I know of, did it several years ago when the 5.7 hemi was still pretty new.

Also, everything electrically will need to be touched as well. I think the 4.7 stuff is close, but not close enough. I think the guy took the computer, wire harness, engine, trans, and gauge cluster out of a donor truck and used that to swap everything into his Dakota

Not the same body style, but you can get some ideas if you click the Hemi installs link at this Street and Performance website. http://www.hotrodlane.cc/ Look at the one they did to a 93 Ramcharger.

Don't think so. I think he is looking at the hemi idea. He has been a mechanic at the local dodge dealership for 48 years so driving the new hemis I think has him thinking that way.

would probably be cheaper in the long run to just sell his truck and buy a 5.7 ram.
