Who's are you using? I was looking at a Hoosier bias ply A body around 3000lbs with around 450 hp and similar ft/lbs. Ladder bar suspension

If an automatic use the Hoosier radial. It is worth around a tenth over bias ply.

I thought about running the radial slick, but the track I would be racing on can be a little marginal as far as preparation.

My rear wheel arch opennings are modified to accept the taller tire. My current gear ratio is 5.37:1 which is probably a little high for what I am going to be doing. The next engine to go in will be a high RPM engine, which is what the gears were originally bought for. This engine was a fill in/back up engine, we had our first child and I wasn't sure when I would get to finishing the R5 engine off.

Wow thats alot of gear. I dont blame you for wanting at least a 30" tall tire with that gear. I do like the way mine hook and handle and I even drive on the street with them. Good luck , Ron

30x9 hoosier radial! They hook to the cords. People were telling me how great they were so I took the plunge and bought a set. I ll never go back to bias again! I'd take off any 10.5 11w, 12 and run the 30x9s. They also have 30x10.5 radial but from what I hear they work on some cars and not on others.

That's what I always point out when the subject of radials comes up. I can't recall the last time I had a problem at an IHRA divisional/national event. I love my Hoosier lightweight radials also!
Earlier this year, as in years past, I was VERY inconsistent at Orlando Speed World (Florida) and rarely went. In the last 6 weeks I attended 2 Stock/Super Stock combo events put on by our regional association at Orlando. I was leading the points and wanted to insure I stayed there despite my traction concerns. They had gotten a new track prep crew since the last race I attended and I was happily surprised to see traction as good as it's ever been there or anywhere else! The last race, with great air, resulted in the best ET's and 60' times ever with my usual "tune". All 60's were witin .01. It just depends on how much time, effort and material the track wants to put into it and if they know what they are doing.
Whatever 9" you go with, get as close to a 10" rim as you can. If you don't want to cut-up/mini-tub the car, you should be able to go with a wider tire and rim if you get a 3/4" offset kit for the leaf springs. Nevermind, I see you have lader bars!
Traction may still be a concern when you go to the stronger engine. Michael Beard tried running his Volare with a Stocker-type Cal-Trac suspension when he put a mild, SS-legal Drag Pack FI 360 engine in for SS/GT. He was running mid-high 10's, but the motor made too much power to hook as consistently as was necessary. So he back-halved the car.
