When putting a fresh set of heads together, do you like to lap the valves, or not? I was tought to in college that is was a good idea to do a light lap with fine compound, but Ive also read and seen where guys dont like to at all. Ive taken brand new heads from edelbrock, and the 906 heads from arrow heads and they werent lapped at all.

When I worked at Pettis and George K. racing, we always lapped em in more so to check to see how concentric the valves/seats were than to achieve a finish..........

Most guys like to run a narrow seat angle on race heads and use machinist dye to check the seat for location and seal.
