Borrow a known good one and find out.A 750 is the logical response but it may et better with an 800 or 850.

We use a 750 DP on my sons Dart with his .030 over 400 and it works great. He uses 3.91's also and even put an 830 DP on but it ran no faster with the 830 so he went back to the 750 DP which works great for him. Just a standard 750 DP we tuned. It has run 11.40's at 117 and its just a mild 400 driver. I like the 750 DP for mild street cars. Ron

Yes for a mostly stock or mild build. With your cam, T-convertor and gears a DP should work good for you.

Run the basic 4779 holley, should be fine. Get the jetting squared away and it will be good.

If you want to spend more, get the HP series, but, I don't think it will really benefit you much.

They all take some fine tuning.

I would definitely go no more than 750. 650 would probably be good.

There used to be an old trick of putting a paperclip or something like that on the diaphragm rod to assure that the secondaries are opening completely..........

Just sayin'...........might as well make sure you're gittin' all she's got now.

Yes I agree, I did that exact thing to find out the secondaries were hardly opening at all on my '28 hot rod. I had the lightest springs available, so there was nothing I could do about it. The car was just too light for the horsepower (built 468 BB Chevy) to generate enough load.

tried that a few years ago and the paper clip moved so secondaries were working

The question is are they opening all the way?

I have a 950hp on mine, what do I know...

Cars with less cam/converter/gear run std 750dp's all the time. I wouldn't put anything smaller on it, although you could.

buy a used 750DP or HP, rebuild it and roll. No need to spend $500. 750DP's work well on everything.

As far a size goes, I had a milder 340, but slightly looser converter in my car. Used a 650 and 750 double pumper back to back same day with stock jetting in both carbs. The car slowed a tenth with the 650.
