No, that would be found on hemi and convertable models only.

Well actually the answer is they COULD have. Normally should have been on all convertibles and Hemis but they could also be found on other lesser equipped cars, especially 4 speed cars, and there were also a few Hemi cars that escaped without them.

The torque boxes were only suppose to come on convertibles or cars with the Hemi engine. But like Scott said, not everything went as it was suppose to.

The answer is no. The torque boxes were not standard equipment on a 440. If yours has them, I would wonder why but I would not retrofit them on a 440 car if you don't have them...

JD, see my post, trust me I have evidence both ways. If the question is "What would have been the norm" the correct answer is Hemis and convertibles only, but what should have been and what actually happened wasn't always a match in the case or torque boxes (and many other parts for that matter).

The question is why did the OP raise the question? Does he want to retrofit torque boxes on a 440 GTX because they could have come on it?

I have a factory 70 GTX v code 4 speed car that doesn't have torque boxes. It is a fairly early production car but still can't see why it don't have them.

There are no known 1969 440-6 (A12s) with torque boxes and you would think that if any no Hemi or ragtop would get them they would. However they began life (on paper) as a 383 car with the A12 package that included specific 440 and special equipment.

I really doubt a 68 or 69 440-4bll car would have them considering they were not put on the 69 A12's.

40 years have passed and a lot of modifications made to these cars for drag racing. Only cars that are survivors and never modified or restored should be used as a reference. I have seen a lot of cars in my travels. I have never seen a original 68-9 b body 440 engine GTX or Coronet RT with the torque boxes installed at the factory.

I have owned about 25 68-70 440 4 barrel,4 speed and automatic cars, none of them had torque boxes. I have had 3 factory six pack/six barrel cars,(a 70 Road Runner 4 speed car,a 70 Charger R/T automatic car and a 69 1/2 A12 Superbee 4 speed) none of them had torque boxes. My friends 69 383 4 speed Dart GTS has them on the rear only. All of my convertibles, both B and E bodies have had them. Most Hemi B bodies have them.

Scott, no offense but I'd have to see one for myself. I've owned, restored and judged many, many, many 68-69 B-Bodies and never seen them on anything but Hemi and convertible card. Did I say many?

Not sure if this helps, but my '69 Coronet R/T hardtop does not have the torque boxes, but my '69 Coronet R/T convertible does have them. Both are 440 cars, the hardtop is auto, the convertible is a 4-speed.

JD, no offense taken, I just know what I've seen and know that there were exceptions, simple as that. Since I dealt in selling reproduction TB's for a number of years, and still sell reinforcing plates for them as well as pinion snubber plates, I pay attention to that feature more than your average enthisiast. How many 1968 Hemi Super Bees have you seen without rear torque boxes or rear spring plates, yet DID have (the supposedly convertible only) FRONT torque boxes? I know of at least one that was built that way and have pics to back it up. Bottom line is that there was what was "supposed to be" then there were exceptions in every imaginable direction.

Anything is possible, these cars were built by people, sometimes they made mistakes.I think everyone agrees they "should have" only been installed on convertables and hemi cars.

Cars I have restored or have owned:
68 GTX 440 4 speed. No torque boxes
68 Charger R/T 440 4 speed. No torque boxes
70 GTX 440 4 speed. No torque boxes
69 1-2 A12 440 6 Pack 4 speed. No torque boxes
70 Charger R/T 440 auto. No torque boxes.

69 Charger Hemi 4 speed. Rear Torque boxes
71 Charger R/T 440 6 Pack Automatic. Front and Rear torque boxes.

Up to 70, the only hardtops or coupes with torque boxes normally were the Hemi cars.

Don't forget the high performance A-body cars, they had them too, mostly 4 speeds and convertibles, but again, there were lots of exceptions.
