Looking to overhaul my 383. 516 heads, solid cam, stock stroke and rods. Goes 12.0s in my 67 Belvedere. Would like to get some more out of it without spending a ton. I have a set of 440 source heads I'm considering throwing on. Would love to see high 10s, would be happy with 11.20s. Any input??

Stroke it, port the heads and 11.20's shouldn't be too difficult.

When I had the 383 w/440 crank (431), RPM heads massaged by Dwayne, Schubeck lifters, (.550 lift as I recall), RPM manifold, 800 Holley, Jerico, 4:10 gears, my best was 11.09 (Atco) @124. Still had trouble hooking. If only I had hooked.......

Not interested in stroking. I built a 500 I had to take out from to much torque not enough traction. Just looking to get the most out of what I got and save my $$ for my 4link Barracuda. Cam? Heads? Intake? Pistons? Comp ratio?

No since in messing around, build like the above engine but throw your aluminum heads on and your in the high 10's if your chassis works well.

My chassis has a full cage and 2x3 frame connectors. Caltracs complete setup split mono leafs, bars, rancho shocks, lowered 1 inch. 90/10s up front with 6 cyl torsion bars. Only thing I dont have are the "fancy" bushings for the upper control arms. I found somebody that makes them but I think I'm just going to get the tubular arms with the heim ends. 456 braced 8 3/4 with a spool and a ATI 8 in converter. Id love to use the 500 again but I just moved to ny and all the tracks up here don't believe in Vht I guess. Lol. So I'm looking to beef up this 383 to leave soft and go like hell on the other end

Nice, thanks. I am def going to change cams. I really think I'm going to go with the MP 590 cam or do you think I should have more lift?

The MP 590 is a very good shelf grind cam but if you have the actual flow numbers for your heads , Dwayne or several others on this board could spec you a custom grind that would most likely be better.
