I'm needing advice on which particular 100+ amp Denso alternator fits the best (or with the least amount of fabrication) with the '70-up smallblock alternator brackets. If you have a suggestion, please state the year, make, model, and amp output. Thanks!
Here is what I have for brackets.

I had figured out the best cross reference at one point, but I can't remember now. I believe it was a Toyota pickup or FourRunner.

Key point is that the lug configuration/orientation on these does vary. Might be different rotations available as well. Can't just use any Denso with the correct pulley.

I do have a core off a Mazda powered fork truck that looks like it would darn near bolt right up. It's only about 45 amps though.

Thanks, but I started there, and then moved on. Andy doesn't have a kit with a high amp Denso alternator. 60 amps is the highest he has. Not enough juice for me.

I used a external regulated 120 amp denso on the 440 truck. it was from a 90 van premag 318 with a 2 groove pully.(in the sig pic)

I fliped it over and used the 1 single lug at the pivot bolt and made up a spacer bolt for the 2 lugs for adjustment.

this moved the Batt post out away from the head/block so i would not have to cut the plastic shield or grind the Batt stud down for clearance. crimped on 2 eyeloops for the feild wires and hooked it right up with stock wires.

it used the non a/c BB alt brackets, has the stock VR on the firewall.

if you want the 1 wire internal regulated denso and plan to wire it so. Andys set up is the way to go. and you may not need to grind the Batt stud for clearance.

I looked at my 85 SB non a/c alt brackets and it will fit the same way fliped over. as soon as I score another mini alt I plan to swap it over to the SB truck also.

I hear from steve I just missed you in the hamburger line at Garlits.

2x no steering colum for me I think I will buy a whole truck and part it out to save some coin on travel expenses.

Mike, sorry we didn't meet up at Garlits!
Thanks for the info! I want to go with an externally regulated alternator. I did some searching on ebay, and found this. Judging by the two posts on the back, I assume this one is externally regulated? Is it the same alternator as yours?

yep,thats the one.

heres is a better look at it.

you can see how I did the tube spacers, same should work on the SB non a/c brackets as well from looking my 318 over when I did the 440 truck.

I have a 60 amp Toyota truck alternator on my Savoy with electric fan, water pump, and fuel pump and even at night with my headlights on and everything running it still charged 14.5-15 volts at idle.
So I don't understand why anyone would need more than that

If 60 amps works for you, then great. My 18" electric cooling fan spikes to 60 amps upon start-up, and settles down to a continuous 30 amp draw. There will be a smaller electric fan to cool the trans cooler. I am also installing a multi-amplifier stereo system in my Jeep. And then there's the current demand of the Warn winch...
