It would probably be better to take a long walk off a short pier before one gets started on building a Hemi, something I should have done as well, so they can come to their senses.

Getting a good block is a pain, even a new one...unlink a used 440 block that's been assembled an ran once at least, a new block is going to have some issues, isn't cheap, and neither is the machine work. So to even put the short block togather, takes some time, money, and attention to detail. I should know, I just wrecked one...in 5 passes. Luckily its not bad, but pulliing it back out was not on my agenda.

Ok, lets compare mine. world block 2500 stageV heads 3800 crank 500 rods 700 pistons 280 cam/lifters 700 timing chain 125 head studs 295 intake 500 valve covers 250 rockers 2600 (stageV roller, dichelles shafts, dvorak stands) Carbs 1200 fuel pump (racepumps 2000) 400 Misc. hardware 350 oil pan (Milidon 31581) 350 External oil line 145 oil line 145 oil pump drive 150 valve spring 200 magnafuel shear plates 200 fuel lines 100 fuel pressure regulator 155 throttle linkage 100 air cleaner 900 balancer 275 flywheel 120 machine shop 2000 Al Debevek K-membeer 900 paint, 280 for 1 quart for original PPG formula Gaskets 400 Bearings 375 spark plug wires 180 distributor 150 (includes recurve) This does not count shipping or travel to get some things done. Its not cheap. I could have bought for cheaper but I know what is in my engine. Many of the parts are similar in cost to what is listed below, I did some shopping around for some things to save a buck. It also does not count any mistakes in parts fitment. Tim Quote:

I have been careful not to keep any evidence of what I have spent putting my BAE hemi together. So the cost is a secret atleast from my wife.

DOH!!!
I guess I really stepped into this one!!
My apologies guys BUT what I was really questioning is the Street-able Pump Gas Hemis.
From what I have seen so far these are pretty much race pieces and actually decent prices for what you're getting.
My question is the ones I have looked at as complete engines the prices look like those ya'll have quoted for race Hemis.
Another question arises: More than a few times I have seen people say they have had major issues with Hemis after being built. This is the reason I was looking more at complete engines. Have the builder run it and inspect it before I take it. To make sure there are no underlying issues with it.
A race hemi is not 16K if those are the prices your refering to...A used race hemi is a bunch more!
And as far as underlying issues, we were not aware of some of the rather odd changes to the after market block we recieved, nor was there any warning included. We have built blocks from this manufacutrer before, and never had these particular issues before. We caught most of the changes, but missed one major one that's not really somthing you can vissually see, and now we know. Most builders will already know about all the updates, so stick with one that builds them on a regular basis. It will save you headaches later.
As for me, I think I am done with CI blocks based on the initial cost, and then the cost to fix it and nobody seems accountable even though their name is all over it. Not been real happy with mine and the issues, but its almost back togather as a short block.

Like other free market items, the price is determined by the most foolish buyer.

So you're blaming your recent spun bearing issue on the block? I also can't figure out what "CI" refers to?
cast iron?

No, I was refering to the water in the oil, issues with head deck flatness, and lastly, the thrust bearing .010" oversized. CI was for cast iron...It was comming apart for more than just me starving #3 rod for oil. I will take credit for my part.
