My cars had a rotisserie paint job and been sitting for nearly 15 years now without assemble. It has been wet sanded and polished way back after the paint dried.

Now that I'm pulling it out and am starting assembly, what should I apply to the paint before installing all the chrome trim, etc..

Do you have a machine to polish with or are you planning on doing it by hand ?

I recommend a Porter Cable D?A polisher to anyone that plans on doing any at home detailing. For polish you can use a white foam pad and some Meguiars 205 polish. If you need to go more aggressive a yellow pad and the 105 compound will take most anything out without swirling the finish like a wool pad and a heavy cut compound will.

For wax Mequiars NXT is easy to find but you can uses any major brand wax with pretty good results, Remember the wax is for protecting the finish, Not making it shiny. Thats the polish's job.

Everyone else is going to tell you to use Zanio's. I have no experience with it but I use the Meguiars every day and my customer never have a complaint.

I would recommend any stripes decals and the like be put on before you wax the car. I did a car once tried to put the 'bill board' on the side. Needless to say it was a challenge trying to get it to adhere to the surface.

I agree. Polish it do the decals, mask off the decals then wax it.

Wouldn't polish leave some oils on there as well?

No.A polish should make the surface shiny by fixing the imperfections in the paint, not cover them up with fillers and silicone. It doesnt stay on the paint.

You will still need to wipe down the area with alcohol or a wax cleaner but it wont dull the finish.

I have Zainos on hand. Bought their kit a month ago and have a Portercable polisher on the way. The car has been wetsanded and polished on at the paint shop.

I just want to do any final work prior to assembly. Hate to admit it, but its on my only current Non-mopar....that I'm needing to do some final polish on at this point.

But, after winter, the RR is back in for final assembly, polish and decals.
