I've got my 8 3/4 out of my Charger and found quite a few marks and stamps I want to replicate. The one pictured is located on the left side between the u bolts and is pink. Any guesses what it is? Car is a 74 and rear seems to be original. I was wondering if there was a certain font that would have similar letters and where or who could make stamps for this and the axle tube number. I've looked at all the ones that windows xp offers and none seem to have the right shape. Any help is appreciated.

If you want truely accurate stamps I'd reccomend making stencils of your originals and having some rubber stamps made, they are not that expensive.

I have many stamps that I only used one time and never to be used again. What I started to do was go into my computer and look at the different fonts in my WORD files. I found the font I liked....re sized it to the size I want and printed it out. Then I cut it out with a razor blade....applied a lite cote of spray adhesive to the back side and stick it on the part. I use a sponge and dipped it in the paint...blotted it a few times to get the extra paint off the sponge and then dab it over the stencil. Peel off the stencil and your done.

It cost nothing to do and I find it much easier to control.

I agree that the stencils work great. However, If you are REALLY particular the rubber stamps (or similar applicator) will leave the desired "halo" look which presses most of the paint to the edges of the digits like you see in your original example

You are correct. It all comes down to the level of the restoration.

Where would one get that done? I'm not usually at a loss on where to get something done but have no idea on this. Thanks for all the great ideas. The stencil idea is great but I want things to look like they should. I was lucky to find the original markings and want to do them justice. I have to admit I get excited to find stuff like that on a car. One time somebody asked me what my favorite part of a 57 Chevy convertible I restored was and I told them, " The detailed suspension, I could lay under it and look at it for hours". They did not understand. Few do. Thanks for the help all!

Most print shops can lead you to someone local who makes them, they are not typically very expensive. Just look in your local yellow pages.

Most printing shops offer a rubber stamp service. Just make a tracing of your original markings, then they have a catalog to match the font. I had some rubber stamps made for $6 each.

I'm not sure when I last saw a print shop but I haven't been looking either. I may take along some examples of the hose stampings underhood. I'm sure they will balk at the pentstar but maybe I will get some kid that only thinks I'm a devil worshipper and not a copyright infringer! Again many thanks.

I have paid up to $25.00 for stamps.....the round one that says "paint ok" and the one on the heater box that has a border around it.

Nobody has offered yet to decode what the "J1 28" means. I'd like to know also, as mine has something similar that does not appear on the build sheet. Mine's illegible - see photo.

Apparently most axles also have a three digit number that does appear on the build sheet.

What is everybody using for paint? I had a couple of stamps made and regular paint ate them up to the point they weren't usable.
