If you ordered a 1970-1 Cuda with leather seats did you have to or automatically get the overhead console and/or the red insert door panels?Or was this a Gran Coupe thing? Or could you just get the leather seats without any additional options? Thanks for any info

1971 is not my gig, but on a 1970 Barracuda or Cuda ordered with the Premium interiors, you did get the overhead consolette.

'71 no overhead console in 'Cuda (BS).

Red insert in '70 was with the "black/white houndstooth w/red piping" Gran Coupe interior.

'70 & '71 leather interior received the woodgrain insert on the door panels. Some past discussions about tan leather being non-consistant in this regard BP & BS.

AFAIK in 1970 for 'Cuda or Challenger - ordering leather would automatically get you the overhead console.

I don't believe that the same applied for '71, though I suspect that it was hit & miss as to whether the overhead console got installed when leather was present.

The overhead console was standard on '71 Challengers with the A78 (formal roof) option which gave you the small, SE style back window.

The red stripe door panel inserts came with the optional houndstooth cloth insert seats on '70 'Cudas. These seats had red piping separating the cloth from the vinyl and the door panel inserts complemented it.

As for woodgrain inserts, there is a wee bit of controversy:

I believe that ordering leather in a '70 or '71 'Cuda/Barracuda automatically got you the woodgrain inserts and that is consistent with cars I've parted, originals I've seen and original 'Cuda (not Gran Coupe) door panels in my stash.

As with the overhead consoles, though, getting woodgrain inserts with leather seats seemed to peter out during the '71 model year....

Others will state that any door inserts were only for Gran Coupes.....

busy minute

Deluxe seat belts were a stand alone OPTION.

'70 Challenger SE & R/T SE (JH29/JS29) are ONLY Dodges with overhead console. (R/T (JS23) with leather no overhead console (w/carpet, reflector & woodgrain door).

I owned a '70 U-code Cuda that was EF8 with the PRT5 interior. The car was rough and unrestored and it did not have the woodgrain inserts in the door panels. The SPD was June 1970.

If leather seats were ordered in a 'cuda/Barracuda or Gran Coupe are they the same stitching/pattern? Or is 'cuda/Barracuda different than Gran Coupe?

>>>>>>>>>>>WELL i guess i just answered my own question as the 2nd posted brochure picture says Gran Coupe, Barracuda & 'cuda????>>>>>So they are the same???

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

The leather pattern for '70-'71 'Cuda, Barracuda and Gran Coupe was all the same, and is what you've shown on the bucket seats above.

IIRC it was available in white, black and brown ('71)

Interestingly, the 'Cuda leather pattern has shown up as original equipment in a number of '71 Challengers.

And I stand corrected on the Challenger overhead consoles - other than A78 '71 cars, only JH29 or JS29 cars would get them, though a premium interior in either '70 or'71 Challenger would get you the lower door panel carpets and reflectors....

Leather seats for 70-1 Cudas came in black for both years, white was 70 only, 2 different browns for 70 and 71, and Ember Gold for 71 only

My 71 Hemi Challenger which I purchased in 1979 had those seats, coded for leather, ordered by & delivered to a serviceman stationed on Guam, always wondered why it had the wrong seats.. maybe it had the right seats...

My A78 Challenger came with the seats pictures as well. I had to correct my legendary order at the time.

I've had several leather interior cudas that had their original interiors. All early 70 cudas got the overhead console and standard door pannels. The 71 cudas all had no overhead console and did all have the woodgrain door pannel inserts.
