As some of you may know, I bought my 34 Dodge as basically a frame and a body with just a bill of sale. I've been working on the car since 2006 and been nervous about trying to get a Ca title. I looked into places like Broadway Title, titleing it as a kit car, and even buying an old title from a different car and trying to do it that way. Well, I ran into a guy at a swap meet that said he could get me a title because the body had an original Serial number on it. Well after filling out some forms and getting a title report stating the state I purchased the car from had no records for it, I have my title in hand for a total cost to me of $136. $36 for the title and $100 for his work. I am happy as a clam!

Gotta be a big relief for a cool project.

Old, tired, and sometimes broke down. Me, not my car...

He did not request any money until he had the title in his hands.

Congrats! Always a relief when you have legal paper work in your hands.
You kept his contact info for future use, right?

I bought a 34 Chevy Master sedan from a junkyard in Illinois yrs ago. It had been there since 1961. The VIN is on the engine block for those cars and I was able to get the last owners name from the state licence office. I looked the name up in the phone book and there was a listing, so I called. A lady answered and I explained about the car and asked if there was any chance she might still have a title. The car was her late husbands but she said he sold it in 1961 and that she didn't have any paperwork for it. She did agree to apply for a duplicate title and I did all the leg work and paid all the fees, plus a little something for her trouble. Bottom line was that I recieved a good title for my old car legally with just a little research. Sometimes it's easier than you think. Oh, and she thought it was great that someone would rebuild her husbands old car. That was his plan for it but life just kept him from it. Don't we all know how that goes.

Was Broadway title not able to get the job done? I used them about 10 years ago with no problems. Just curious.

Things have changed at Broadway title. These days they are very expensive, and the titles they issue are not accepted by many states anymore, including IL. Everything changed a year or 2 ago. Gene

Broadway Title was going to be able to help me a few years ago for $350. An issue with my insurance company kept that from happening at that time. When I checked their website several months ago their prices had gone up to around $800 and I found in their text that they would not even deal with a car like mine anymore.
