Ok, so I was cleaning up some marine caulk off of my rear glass after sealing the back window with the trim removed. During this, the rag soaked with paint thinner rubbed against parts of my vinyl top. I realized the effect it had and use rubbing alcohol to wash it away and then I hit it with a heavy dose of Armarol.

Can anyone tell me if there is a product that can bring back the shine of the vinyl top in these areas?

It dulled it but did not remove any of the grain.

What i would do is get some more material to test on, maybe a small piece from somewhere (under trim), and reproduce the problem. then try solutions. one thing that comes to mind is to try acetone, but somehow puddle it on so it can soften up the vinyl for a few minutes and then let it dry on it's own (no wiping dry). I've used this method many times making plastic parts look new, maybe it will work on vinyl??? worth a try. but it makes screwdrivers handles, and some plastics look amazing. I had this plastic shifter knob that was very scratched, looked acrylic; used the acetone trick and voila...like new.

Do I need to tell you that you really screwed up bu putting the Armor All on it.. That stuff is a bunch of silicon. You will never get anything to fix it..

When I bought my Challenger, it had an insurance company claim number written on the sail panel of the vinyl top in yellow marking crayon.
I left it alone but one over zealous idiot at the body shop figured that he'd wipe the number off with a rag and laquer thinner.
Needless to say the top completely dulled in this area.
After trying various products, I actually used some black shoe polish (the pastey stuff in the little can). Certainly not 100% revival, but at least it would shine adequately so it didn't stand out like a sore thumb.
Lucky you didn't set the laquered rag down on the paint....you otta see what a nice "wrinkle" job that does....... DAMHIK

Ok, I went out this morning and hit the problem area around the rear windo heavily with 3 coats of the Bondo die. I then did the whole top twice with a light coat to blend it. It really looks fine right now but time will tell.

I'll let it sit for the day and check it in the morning. Thank you for all of the feedback. To the silicone comment, they make chemicals to remove other chemicals so I prepped the roof before hand. On the negative side, wax and grease remover has a similar effect as paint thinner.

Oh well. In another 5 years, I'll be hoping to pull the whole car apart and it will get a new top then.

I played around with a rip green v-top for my satellite years ago... sprayed on some sem black dye and it turned out really nice. If it was in better shape I would have left the top on as it looked good.
