I'd never want one of those things peeking out of my hood, not cause I think it looks strange, but because I would not want the attention from John Q. Lawman.
One of the street machines in our town is a red Camaro with a blower and no hood. I'm told it is owned by one of the local constabulary. I guess he tickets himself...
Roots blowers are cool as long as you don't chrome the casing. I like a matte gray finish, like on the old Weinands.

Like someone here already said, they look cool on cars that USE them. Gotta be big tire, big inch, little bitty e.t. If it looks fast it had better be fast.

I dig that blown black '55. I don't think the "driving in the rain" argument really holds water with this discussion. (HAH!). I've driven my '68 R/T in the rain plenty of times, and the first thing that comes to mind is "stupid". Sure, it's maybe making 430 hp at the motor, but it's damn near undriveable on wet pavement. Do you think a blower car is gonna be any better? Hell, half the people here don't drive their naturally aspirated cars in the rain!

Freiberger, I definetly noticed that your blower is satin, I like it. If the car represents high a buck effort, then everything should be shiney. But you can make a medium dollar effort that looks really cool and down to earth but wicked. Where all the money goes into the Hemi, the Blower, a Dana, a Jerico, the go-fast stuff. No $ left for frills like polished aluminum and braided hose and 500 pounds of speakers. I love blower cars, the sound is like nothing else. And the power. But I don't like posuer cars. If it has a blower, it has to go. I don't mean it has to run 8's, but it will need to run strong for what it is, considering the weight, the tires and the level of streetability. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Roots blowers are still the epitomy of the "ultimate" hot rod motor add-on. Turbos are nice but boring to look at, Cent. superchargers are a bit more interesting than turbos but still dont have that "old school" feel to them and certainly get your blood going. Hearing a blower whine as a nicely done car pulls into the local burger joint etc makes EVERYONE look. My car makes 655rwhp on pump gas, runs mid 10s at over 130mph and has AC, road suspension, full exhaust and 6 way adjustable seats/full interior but the guy next to me who has a 6-71 on a small block chevy in a patchwork colored Nova (etc) will still draw the crowd. Blowers are crowd pleasers and always will be. Now, where did I put that BDS catalog at..... jim

Nothing... and I mean nothing looks cooler than a blown hemi, Dave.
An injected hemi might get close... but nothing says KMA like that picture you attached.
If people are worried about cutting holes in hoods, cut up a 'glass hood... you're painting the horizontals flat black anyway.
Also... on detailing a 6-71 or 8-71 case: I like the satin look, maybe with polished ribs. To me it looks more old school and workmanlike. For something a little different, you might consider painting the case body color and polishing the ribs (and the front and back) kind of like the Tony Nancy's old dragsters.

Any body have any info on the Dick Landry setups. I have an old Mopar Muscle with a 6/71 blown 340 in a 72 Roadrunner that still had the airgrabber hood. If I can put one in my Challenger and clear the hood I would do it.
I saw on e-bag, a '70 Chally 'vert R/T w/a 340 DLI supercharger in it w/an R/T hood.

i would love to see if the owner would ever take that thing out in the rain.
in that respect the flathooded FI cars have them beat. i myself could never build a fairweather only car.
Just what exactly makes ya think that you can`t drive a car with a hole in the hood in the rain...I`ve had mine in the rain more times than I care to count....rain might bother the "trailer queens"..but for those of us that really drive blown cars (and YES i DO drive mine plenty) rain is just some spots at the end of the day that windex and a towel will take care of
And DF...not that i`m prejudiced or anything..but I think ya know where my vote goes Rick
71, Awesome setup, love the EFI,
But for a daily driver, a hole in the hood is a pain in the rear. I'm talking snow, rain, etc..
That's where the under the hood stuff shines.
And instant respect, like instant grits, doesn't taste as good as the real thing...

71, Awesome setup, love the EFI, Thanks Whiplash..glad to see you got yours all together finally also
But for a daily driver, a hole in the hood is a pain in the rear. I'm talking snow, rain, etc.. That's where the under the hood stuff shines. And I absolutely agree 100%..No it dosen`t make the most friendly "daily driver"..I was just addressing the implication that nobody with a blower would drive them in the rain, Like I stated I do drive mine..while I may not be overly happy in a down pour, I also don`t watch the weather forcast 3 days in advance to see if there is gonna be a cloud in the sky ..I`m at work right now and it`s sitting in the parking lot as we speak...I`d be willing to bet that 90% or more of the members on this board won`t/don`t drive their cars in the rain and more to the point.. the SNOW that those of us up here have to deal with..My car was my daily driver from `79 till around `86 when I parked it. While I do enjoy driving it..I like the creature comforts my daily driver affords me more.
And also while i`m on this "hijack" The notion that any car with a blower had better run 8`s is just a plain crock of $#&*...The level of parts, maintence, money required at that level is just not what alot of people want....myself included..I built mine the way it is, To be fun and dependable because thats the way I wanted it.(and i`ve got a "thang" for blowers) Given the constraints i`ve imposed on myself with a real V code car, i`m perfectly happy with it`s performance and it still has a some left in it
Sorry `bout the hijack DF....I`m at work and bored
