My infinity system sent only certain freq to each speaker. The speakers had 4 wires. two for the bass and two for high. Also had one in a intrepid that sent two wires to the lower door speaker and two to the upper small speaker.
Now my Durango has the same type thing.

What I am getting at is normal speakers sounded terrible when I tried to change them. So be careful trying this.

Are you sure? I know the speakers have 4 wires, but I think 2 are for the speaker signal and 2 are to power the amp on each speaker. I don't think they use seperate wires for high and low sounds, because if memory serves, the infinity radios will plug right into a non-infinity radio connector and work just fine. Sound quality is worse because the infinity speakers are better, but as far as I know there are not seperate wires for high/low frequency sound??

Im sure. the amp in one was under the seat. rear seat. The amp in the Intrepid was in the trunck on the left side behind that fiber liner. The speakers did not have amps on them.
My speakers were shot I ended up getting subwoofer bass speakers for the doors. I had bought some real nice alpine and put them in and they sounded terrible. They only had a bass signal going to them. Im not sure if all were like this but I know these were. BTW my brother worked on the radio line at accustar in HSV and is now in Detroit because they sold that plant in Hsv to Seimens. He told me what was wrong when I tried the new speaker thing.
Maybe one of the online stores tech lines can help answer what year your trying to use. I called them to get the bass speakers the tweeters were ok.

Yes, the Infinity speakers (rear anyway) are coaxial with separate feeds from the amp, whether the amp in on the speaker or elsewhere.

This set up is bi-amped?

now i'm starting to get confused. [not really that hard to do.... ] maybe using this setup is not worth the effort ? as opposed to an aftermarket system ? i'm parting out my old bus, and i hate to toss something that [in my opinion] works pretty good. i'm sure the speakers could use replacing, as they are original. any thoughts on this ?
