Ive got my 06 mega cab(florida truck) and my wifes 2010 mini van.Live in the rusty state of ohio.both are rust free cars, but not for long. What do you do to prolong rust. I hear spray with old engine oil, chain lube, list goes on.wanted to see what others do to keep them from rusting away.thanks

Ziebart if they still exist. http://www.iboats.com/CRC-Marine-Heavy-D...1--view_id.5226http://www.eastwood.com/ew-heavy-duty-anti-rust-32oz.html For the CRC stuff I use that with a spray straw and inject all the door bottoms, leading edge of the hood and all the other nooks and crannies where rust starts. The eastwood stuff I have used less but still like it as well for the bigger areas like inside the rockers and internal boxed structure, it requires a spray gun of some sort which I have but its still messy. Undercoating over clean surfaces is ok, you just gotta keep up with it and of course applying it over rust is a big no-no. I just use the 'regular' version https://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=364 For bare areas wire brush, wipe clean and lay some of this stuff on http://www.vhtpaint.com/products/epoxypaint/ Its not really epoxy but it does dry nice and hard. For all the above products I'm pretty generous on how much I use for just my car, I pound the stuff on every year and hope for the best. Edit: Bar and chain lube is good, might stay kinda drippy though. I have done the used oil spray on some old junkers, its going to stink and stay stinking for a long time. Not something I would use on a brand new car. The crc and eastwood will stink for a few days until the solvents have evaporated and then there odorless.

When I was a young man, living in Detroit, in the 60's, we used to take some of the oil drained from the crankcase at oil change time, put it in a squirt can and squirt it through any access available in the doors, fenders, quarters, etc. I think that it worked fairly well because when I sold my '58 Plymouth Belvedere in '66, before leaving for basic training, it was still rust free. My father wouldn't let me park it in the driveway though. I imagine that the oil stains might still be on the street.

we've done the oil bit, then go for a drive on a dirt road, and the dirt holds the oil in place.

Well what I did to my 2000 ram was cover everything underneath with wheel bearing grease. The floor pans are still factory grey. I also did the doors, tailgate and any place where crap got hidden or rusted out. I still have the bottom of my door (they had rust starting but have seemed to stop), my tailgate is perfect. I missed one of the rear wheel arches and it has a rust hole that is starting to poke through a but the truck looks alot nicer then its counter parts.
For the absolute best powder coating go to J.I.T powder coating, contact infomation is in my personal profile..

There are a number of ways to stop rust. I'm not sure if any one way is the best.
1. Cosmoline - I've never used it. It's been highly recommended, so I want to try it. It's not easily removed though.
2. Various kinds of waxes can stop rust, or slow it down for a bit.
3. Motor oil seems to work well. I knew a guy whose truck seemed to always be covered in oil. I don't know if he intentionally coated it with oil or if the old engine just leaked oil. The old truck didn't rust away. Unfortunately, he had a minor engine fire which quickly spread on the oil soaked chassis and completely burned the whole truck.
4. I've read that vegetable oil with 5% marvel mystery oil added stops rust. The veggie oil would probably be a better for the grass in a guys yard. It's also susposed to be less flamable than motor oil? I've not tried this mixture, if anyone else has please post the results.

I just take cars to one of the many rust proofing shops around and get them oil sprayed You gotta beat Canadian winter rust somehow....
Same here, I'll drive across the border every fall and have Krown do it. Can't beat it...
I really like the idea of this business, I wonder why there are none in this area? The nearest one is 250 miles from me.

There is a place in Akron,Ohio that Oil Sprays only on the week ends. Does a nice job for $55 to $60. They use new hydraulic bio degradable oil. He probably sprays 200 cars a week end so it must work.
Thats a lot of cars in a single weekend? In a 40 hour week thats 5 an hour
