1. When we switch the ignition on - all of the rear running lights come on. 2. The brake lights don't come on when the brake switch is activated. 3. The brake light switch is OK when we do a continuity check. 4. There are two hot leads going to the brake switch. 5. When we jump the brake switch the rear brake lights don't come on. 6. When we put power to the connector that feeds the brake lights they do come on. 7. All of the bulbs are OK.
Any ideas on solving this mystery wiring problem??

Sounds like someone swaped wires around and have the brakelights plugged into the wrong place, same for the extra hot lead at the brake switch.
Is the wiring harness a stock one? If it is, you could use a factory service manual and varify the correct color wires are connected to the correct switches. If the wiring harness is a mess of aftermarket wiring, you will have to trace the wires to and from the correct connection points.

The dash has been apart before I got the car. So I'm trying to track down the gremlin.
Thanks.

I had a weird problem with my Challenger. Traced the whole thing back to the signal switch in the steering column. I replaced that thing and haven't had any trouble since. Also, the greatest tool you can have when working with electrical stuff is a wiring diagram. www.classiccarwiring.com is one of the best sources I can recommend.
