I needed to weld some moly tubing Saturday and all I got was.. pop pop pop and it blew a hole in the metal! It's a Lincoln Square Wave.

I only use it a few times a year now and the last time was probably 5 months ago. It worked ok then but now it pops and I can't get it to weld no matter what..

Any ideas on what to look for? I cleaned the metal and adjusted amps.
I'm wondering if I've forgotten how to tig weld

You need to have a pointed tungsten, DC straight, you need to tell us what your welder is set up, gas, metal thickness, tungsten diameter, flow rate, etc. Tim

Yes it's pointed.. I believe it's 3/32 2%, DC-, flow meter set at 15,
and the metal is about .080 wall

I tried settings from 40 to 70 amps and it still popped(loud).

and going to try it again Monday with some scrap metal but check connections/corrosion first.

I think you have oils on the metal, wash it down with acetone/denatured alcohol. Are you using high freq start or scratch start? Try DC straight also. Tim

Clean the metal as stated above. Make sure you got a good ground. Floor the pedal and back off it when you get a good arch going. Carry on as normal.
