Could be, but that would not be a good choice because the beads would be too aggressive and alter the cast smooth surface. You could use more of a powder type abrasive with a lower pressure, but with either method you are still leaving it bare aluminum and it will corrode with time. I believe the factory method of corrosion protection was a dichromate dip, but I haven't found any company yet that would be willing to do it.
