Leave the vent frame attached to the stainless as that only needs polishing, the potmetal outer A frame is attached by being peened over on the potmetal studs located inside the vent frame that attaches to it, grind the heads off of just the ones peened over, there's some addition studs that are not peened, use these to reassemble the framework back together after plating and polishing, hope your having the vent glass runner and handles done at this time also...
If the peening studs are in bad shape, or short, have the plater rebuild them before plating, otherwise your SOL afterwards

thanks for the info! A few questions as this is my 1st rodeo. Can you clarify which portion is stainless vs pot metal? Peened means the ends have been crushed so the unit stays in place correct? Which portion is the vent glass runner? thanks in advance
Potmetal is the cast pieces, the main arm of the A frame that abuts the windshield A pillar is potmetal, (potmetal is a combination of Aluminum and Zinc), the stainless piece is the vertical runner for the side window, the vent glass runner, is the piece of potmetal that is "glued" to the bottom of the vent window glass, the handles are potmetal also...and yes "peened" means the potmetal "studs" that have been hammered over, or mushroomed to hold the assy together...
You mentioned Advance Plating, is that in Nashville, Tenn?...if so your parts are in good hands, but be aware potmetal pcs can go "poof" at anytime while in a plating, or de-plating solution tank...
