Sure would like to have at least a 1/2" phenolic or wood spacer between my dominator carb and the M-1 intake. But it ain't gonna happen for now. I have a nice gasket on there from Roadhazard. In the cool air we now have is there going to be a problem with heat soak? I only have to run maybe one day this weekend(1/8th) and next weekend two days in the 1/4 mile...Thoughts? Thanks, guys!! Ted

Ted I know on the street with my 63 it made a big difference. If I would touch the gas pedal on real hot summer days before it started it would want to flood real easy. With the 1/2" plastic style spacer it has no problem at all. But thats after it gets to 190 on very hot days. For track only you may be ok. You run race gas also right ? The cheap pump gas gave me a little trouble with fuel boiling this year but they added ethanol to the pump this year. I then added a heat shield which should fit under your hood and may help if you have any trouble. But on race gas for just a race car you may not have trouble. You can see the heat shield and spacer here as it just does fit under my hood with the Indy dual plane intake. Ron

Thanks,Ron! I run race fuel only. Gonna try it and see what happens. I hope to run between 6.40-6.45? Gonna be a lot of hitters there so it will be an 85.00 test and tune!!

Best insulator is wood. Next is phenolic. When it comes to heat soaking problems, heatshields don't work. They actually become heatsinks and can make the situation worse. Remember, the heat isn't coming from the carb, but from the engine. They were originall intended to keep hot air away from the carb while the vehicle was in motion - and it was questionable how well they worked in that application - although a million of them were sold.

The heat shield seems to have helped mine some. I agree aluminum is not the best material it could be made out of but it seems to help keep some heat from the intake off the fuel bowls. I also think I may change to a wood spacer soon as I have seen some of the phenolic actually start to melt before. Ron
