Not often, might happen once in a hundred tries if you are lucky.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

If you're on a level surface and NAIL IT good you can get both of 'em

spinning most of the time.

it will posi when the spider gears start galling up on the cross pin.

it then locks up like a locker till it breaks with a big bang.

both axles will tend to pull together till one slips traction and is over powerd by the other side.

as long as it is pulling straight line with even pull to axles it will spin both tires together.

i used a set of traction bars on an open diff to get it to just bark both the tires on a launch,(cut one wheel peel down from 10 feet to 12" but also had perloaded pass side with 1 airshock.

if it is locking both wheels together,I would service the cross pin and spider gears.

My car is so well balanced that I can get rubber with my open dif 90% of the time. However, the street surface has to be flat and the car must be pointed straight or the differential action tsakes over and you get a single wheel spin.. My observations.

Hmmm... some interesting and worrysome comments here.

Anywyas, I have beening tuning my carb in the hopes to increase the power enough to actually spin the wheels on take off and do a brake stand/burnout. I am certainly having some sucsess now that I am usign an o2 sensor.

When I tried a brake stand on the weekend, the tire started spinning (or so I thought) and the car started to go siedways.

Afterwards I said , wait how did it start going sideways, if only one wheel was spinning, I have an open diff.

I went back later and sure enough, you can see where both wheels were spinning.

I forgot how much fun that is!!!

yes it was a dead straight pull with the brakes holding the drums = more or less.

some time in the mud with 1 tire spinning applying the brake a little will make the other tire start pulling some by slowing the spinning tire down.

best way to do a power brake burn out is to back the adjuster off the brakes so it does not fight itself.

then you can hit it fast and break them loose but the fronts hold the car in place.

I used to install a BB in the line at the rear wheel cyls to block off the rear drums. a set of vise grips clamping the rear hose off will work also.

then you can feather the front brakes and make those looonnnggggg black stripes

I would still be looking at the cross pin if you can pull it out with out R&R of the ring gear.

look for galling and exessive clearance on the spider gear teeth
