I took a chance on a set of 340 x heads and when I had them tanked and fluxed they came up cracked. Since these are such hard to find heads is there anything I can do or should I toss them in the scrap metal trailer and keep on looking?

Another question is what does a set of adjustable lifters go for?

No such thing as adjustable lifters.

What harm does that crack cause?
I mean if you look at magnum heads, most are cracked right there between the intake and exhaust valve and many are still being driven.

Sorry solid lifters

Let me know about the heads you have. demonick@cox.net

That is just one of many cracks.
If you want these cracked ones to run I am only $100.00 into them.

Those cracks are fixable but you have to ask yourself just how much are you willing to spend ?
That could be ground out and welded or pinned and a new seat put in. Possible thread repair also.

A crack that starts in the valve bowl and goes through the seat to the spark plug hole is dead. It's silly to think otherwise. But you probably knew that already.

They're 42+ year old castings that have been through thousands of heat/cool cycles plus look like they have had metal removed in the bowl area. They have exceeded their service life. There is no guarantee another one won't be the same.

That is why reusing old heads is a crapshoot. I hope you didn't have too much money invested.

R.

Yeah I kinda thought the same. I got $100.00 in the heads and $50.00 for the tank and flux.

I had to take the chance though.

I had a set that had that same crack from every intake seat to every spark plug hole. I traded them to a machinist friend of mine. He fixed 'em and sold 'em. I couldn't afford the fix...
