I am quickly running out of hair to pull out. My motor is a 360 .040 over, 11.8:1, J heads, Comp 292/299 .508 hydraulic cam. My issue is keeping valve springs in it, they are not breaking they are going weak after just a few passes. The springs that are in it are comp 995-16, installed height is 1.700 and they are supposed to be 115# at the seat. Last weekend I changed spring after only 25 passes on a new set. I was floating valves and checked the springs and they had 85-90# on the seat. On the first pass it started floating the valves again. Got home and checked they are at 90# on the seat. Any ideas as to what might be causing this or should I just shim the springs up and hope they don't loose any more.

I set my seat pressures between 140 to 175 lbs and shoot for 325 to 375 open, I usually use a used outer spring with the dampener from a solid roller cam set, this is on a flat tappet cam, solid or hydraulic lifters

You have some type of valve train problem.

Pushrods would be first guess.(small thin wall)

How far are you from coil bind . ( check this at the retainer not by math)

Seat run out out loose guides can affect valve control due to valve bounce.
